Time to go : Wed Dec 09, 2009 6:53 pm
After reading the telegraph and argus tonight this paints a picture than has been portrayed by the club and in particular the chairman who says to the fans do not panic. The fact is and whilst I have been watching the cougars in various guises it is not the first time under the chairman we have been served with a winding up order. The club gave no indication of voluntarily going into administration which I feel is treating the fans who at end of the day are paying hard earned money with contempt. The result will without doubt mean points deducted making a hard season harder for the players. With all this in mind and to give the club and new directors a chance of salvaging the damaged reputation the chairman should now RESIGN. I have praised the club and chairman when things go well but also critical when required. An extremely cheesed off supporter.

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Just out of interest as I neither know your Chairman or his history of running your club , is there anybody else willing to commit to running it if he was to go ?

Our chairman is a local man, Neil Spencer.

He was instrumental in resurrecting the club back in 2001 when we folded the first time and I believe has been the chairman since then.

Rumour has it there are new directors coming on board but nothing official from the club as yet.

So a ' good ' bloke then , a RL person , as there is not really any other reason to get involved with running a lower league club , my accountant replied to me when I told him I was considering joining the BOD of Leigh , " are you stark raving mad " , he was right , the old adage " you dont have to be mad to work here , but it helps " should have been born from RL

I have only been wrong once and thats because I thought I was wrong but I was wrong I was right!

Petty authoritarians aren’t man enough to challenge the actions of a person face to face; instead they incite a forum of rumour, innuendo and half truths, and impose rude sanctions to discourage those who dare question fairness.

Rightly or wrongly there are people who would dispute your opening phrase.

When the new club formed in 2001, Neil Spencer had an approach and attitude that wound up many loyal and long term fans.

Some might argue that he saved the club but to what end?

As I said I dont know him , but if he has managed to keep your club [ it is ' your ' club not his ] running for 8 years then he must be a reasonably decent person in my experience , the real bad ones either sell the ground after 2/3 years or dissapear as soon as there is nothing to be made out of it

I was not attacking Neil or anyone else for that matter, but someone must be accountable for the situation we are in.

Assuming we do go into administration again under the chairman I see his position as untenable under the circumstances, no doubt Neil has done a good job keeping the club going up to a point. but I as a fan cannot see how further involvement will ingratiate the fans, I can opnly speak for myself.

Only the other week in the press we were told we are better prepared for promotion, what a load of tosh this turned out to be.

Apart from the fans I feel sorry for Barry and the playeers whom I will continue to watch and support but we all deserve a full explanation as to how the debt occured and from what time period.

Agreed.

I have a hunch on this, but hopefully it will come out in the wash.

When Neil and Colin 'saved' the club, who did they do it for?

They registered a company 'Keighley Cougars 2001 Limited' before the old Cougars was liquidated.

At the time I suggested to Neil that a 'Community' club be formed and offered to invest some of my hard-earned money into it but heard nothing. However, it was too late - Neil and Colin had 'saved' the Club and were the only Directors and shareholders.

It's a pity that a true Community Club wasn't formed with a truly democratic Board accountable to shareholders.

Let's hope that some good will come of this and that the current squad is not lost to other clubs especially as Barry has spent both time and effort in building it from nothing.
