Didn't play too bad i didn't think. Was a gamble to play him we would of lost no matter who played at 6.

Fans should be more vocal at the ground and support the team instead of moaning on here. Eaton in his 4 years at the club has worked wounders, and to slag him and the players off is unfair.

So get behind the team for once

I don't think anyone is moaning about how Barry coached the team.
Its more a case of him playing yesterday.

Loyal not sure where you stand but if you stand where we are there is quite a bit of vocal support in my view, don't get me wrong it could be lot better.

One thing I find annoying/condescending is our tannoy man telling cougar fans to get behind the team when we clearly do, does he think he is Wayne Rooney joking apart I find it annoying.

Re Barry playing I like others was suprised to see him play as having watched reserves a bit thought one of them could have been brought in having said that perhaps Barry thought a youngster not accustomed to size and power of Wdnes may have taken a battering and may have psycholologically done more harm than good.

Since Barry came his judgement has been spot on so I or one will not question it now.

Firstly I'd say the ones who post here, and I know quite a few of them, are generally amongst the most vocal in the ground and most of the chanting eminates from us. It would be nice if more people joined in though.

It doesn't help that we have an MC that, despite his good intentions, patronisingly tells us to get behind the team and in doing so makes us look like a laughing stock in front of away fans. It's counter productive, it pi55es people off.

Regarding Barry Eaton, as a coach he has done a fantastic job for us. I do think though he should retire from playing and give the young ones a chance.

As for criticising players, referees or whoever, I'm a paying customer, I'm entitled to. However when I do criticise, I try to keep it constructive. In the interest of balance I will praise players when we do well, but I won't do it for the sake of it.

I was glad to see Baz playing and my video shows he played a big part in all three Cougar tries.

As for criticising the ref, there is a time and a place.

Some like to hurl abuse calling him a w*nk*r and similar and there have been many times recently I have felt in a similar way.

But:

When the ref has had 20 minutes of abuse off one set of fans he is not going to change his mind on any of these decisions. Infact if I was the ref, it would have the opposite effect. The next 50/50 decision will go to the team whose fans have not been swearing at me non stop. As quoted to me on Sunday "You catch more bees with honey than vinegar" Just a thought but when he messes up, we might be better to choose our words more carefully. When he puts a decision our way, voice something more constructive. "Well spotted ref." Thanks linesman etc.


My thoughts might seem radical people might say they have paid their money so it entitles them to scream and swear abuse from the terrace. But then you can't be surprised when the ref is always against Keighley.

Also, I don't think it does much to encourage families with children to join us on the terraces.

I personally think that Barry should hang his boots up, and as I commented on another thread, his first 20 mins were ordinary and he made mistakes, but he was the best player on the pitch by the end of the game.

If he played so badly (as some have suggested) how is it that he spotted a gap for Hutch and threw a perfect cut out pass, how is it that he kept pace with Hutch and was in the right place at the right time to slice the Widnes defence open and go in unopposed? They were not easy tries, Widnes did not give up.

In the game against Dewsbury Presley was injured and is too important in the up and coming games to risk. He would have been targeted time and time again. Haythornthwaite is good in spells but has yet to get to grips with the game at this level. The critical play in the Dewsbury game saw their prop run right over him from a tap 20. Not blaming him but thats what happens to small players.

I beleive that Barry made himself the "target" in this game to take the pressure off others. A pretty brave thing to do when you don't have much match time.

I don't think this was a "look at me" moment from Barry it was an "I'll do whats best for the team".

I don't think abusing the ref does any good but things like "they're not square again", "look to your right", "look at the linesman" do help. Its an automatic reaction that they will take notice a bit like shouting watch out (or he's behind you ). If you at least make them take notice they might actually see something

I actually think a couple of adults only areas within the ground would help with the atmosphere. Somewhere where industrial language is tolerated. I always feel I'm treading on eggshells regards what I want to say but can't. Rugby League shouldn't just be a family sport like the little girl says over the tannoy before every game, it should be for everyone.

I'm not advocating obscene chanting but a place where I can enjoy the game with my mates, show a bit more passion, let myself go after a weeks graft after all isn't that how spectator sports in this country developed in the first place?

Go back 10-15 years or so back to when stuff like this and on field biff was more tolerated and the crowds were much bigger and vocal wherever you went, I don't think it's a coincidence.

Well, I kinda like the no-swearing or abusive language culture, but I'm all for making a noise! I like original chants and songs, but it's a shame when all you hear are re-hashed football songs. If you want to sing football songs, bugger off to the football.
