Can we afford to lose to Toulouse? : Thu Mar 03, 2011 1:07 pm
We are going no further in the trains cup.
This means we have lost a revenue stream.

If we lose to Toulouse, then thats the end of any CC money.

This will have affect on the way the club can move forward.

We really cannot afford to lose this game.

I have only been wrong once and thats because I thought I was wrong but I was wrong I was right!

Petty authoritarians aren’t man enough to challenge the actions of a person face to face; instead they incite a forum of rumour, innuendo and half truths, and impose rude sanctions to discourage those who dare question fairness.

A valid point, but you could equally say that we can't afford to miss promotion this year. Lack of other "distractions" might give us a better chance in what will be a tight league.

If we lose, then there is going to be a big hole, in the spending power of the club.
This will mean we may not be in a position, to strengthen the playing squad. Something i think we will have to do.

Good point, but I'm the sure the financial plans of the club will not forecast anything beyond this round. I'm not too sure it will be a case of "can't afford to loose", maybe more a case anything beyond this round being a bonus. I don't know the finances of the club, but know JD wants to give every player a chance. Maybe now as we are nearing the league campaign he will have an idea of the strength and weaknesses. Maybe we willl see player recruitment in the future? I'm not sure beating Toulose or not will affect this.

It's a good point re the distractions of cup. Our aim has to be promotion to the Championship. I think in the main we have a squad capable of challenging in C1.

Given that Cougars' official Facebook was asking for opinions on Chris Tuatara, I can't imagine that we're that desperate for cash.

To lose to Toulouse is unthinkable.

We MUST win.

How long is it since we made any progress in the Challenge Cup? We need to generate interest in the Club again and, with only 10 home games in Championship 1, we need to generate some cash also whilst aiming for promotion.

To say that we need to solely concentrate on promotion is ridiculous.

Maybe you need to actually read what others post; where has anyone said we should "soley concentrate on promotion"??

In my opinion our "main" aim for this year should be promotion. A good run in the challenge cup would be good in many ways, but I would swap it for promotion.

I am not trying to be disrespectful to the other teams, but this division is a financial dead end.

- Less Home fans
- Less away fans (last year Halifax brought more fans than this entire division will bring)
- Possibly less corporate interest
- Possibly less sponsors
- Less TV coverage
- More expense for fans to travel (London, Wales, Gateshead, Cumbria x 2)
- More travel expense for the club, see above.
- More winning pay (good from the fans point of view but v expensive for the club)

The best situation, of course, would be both

We have to get out of this league, if we are going for SL as our chairman says we are.

666 makes a very good point about, needing to generate interest in the Club again.
A cup run would help to do that.

666 - Maybe you should read the posts again. Nobody has said we should soley concentrate on promotion. In relation to your comment about generating interest in the club, that is a good point. However, success will always go hand in hand with innovative marketing by the club. i.e. Cougarmania.

Could more be done by the club in a marketing sense? absolutely.
I don't expect a big crowd tomorrow so what about free tickets for schools etc to generate that initial interest.

I think we could do with being a bit more creative to generate that interest and success on the pitch aids that. I'm not a marketing expert, but just a thought?

I agree.

I assume that's one of the reasons why the club has just hired a coimmercial manager also.
