There seems to mixed views on the respective Dulls and Wigan forums about the incident yesterday. What's the Cougar fans' thoughts on the sending off.

For me it was a sending off. Only Raynor will know whether there was intent there or not. Some say he went to knock the ball out which is possible, however, close the line this is a high risk strategy. If you get it right and prevent the try you're a hero, if you get if wrong (which he did) you pay the consequence of a red card.

I think it was a clear red card, the dulls fans would be different if one of theirs was the victim. After looking at all the angles shown on tv I have no doubt, how did Tompkins not drop the ball when he was clearly out cold it was amazing.

What suprises me the most is the Dulls coach, Potter. According to reports he has requested a meeting with the head of refs to discuss the matter. How, having had the time to see all the replays and all then angles can he not understand why his player was sent off.

I think the dulls fans and coach are trying to deflect away from the fact their season is over and are hanging on to anything they see as stopping them from winning. To be fair to them Wigan were troubled as dulls played conditions better but on any other day they would have been hammered by Wigan if they play well.

Hes a nut case.

Should get min 8 games ban.As for Tomkins,he seems to milk it a bit which is typical of him.

No sure that he milked this one that much. He was definately out as you could see from his eyes. I honestly think he must have been feeling the effects as Wigan needed him in the second half but he didn't appear. Agreed in general though he does tend to play act a little. Cracking player though.....?

Tomkins was out before he hit the ground.

In my opinion it was a savage cheap shot against a defenceless opponent and deserves at least a 5 game ban.

It was never a sending of.
Raynor went in to knock the ball out. He caught the lad fair enough, but he was low and it was at full speed. Something the replays were not done at.

Watch it again at full speed. You see that type of tackle attempted every week.

He made a honest attempt to get the ball. Thats more than Tompkins tries to do. He goes in with the knees when trying to do the same thing.

Also watch the reaction of the Wigan players. Even they didn't think it was a bad one.

I know it was a Dulls player, but come on people watch the game with both eyes open.

I just think there has been a huge overreaction to this. Sure, the ref has to take action within the rules against any head shot; all players must be protected. But I just can’t see how Raynor deliberately tried to punch him on the jaw.

Both players were sprinting as fast as they possibly could, IMHO Raynor desperately swings his arm in an attempt to punch the ball free and misses only to connect perfectly with the sweet spot on Tompkins jaw.

Why would he possibly want to hit him in the face??? If he was such a good “shot” that he could hit Tompkins in this manner, then it would have been much easier for him to connect with the ball and save a try.

Noble commented that coaches actually coach players to punch at the ball in these situations. Not only that, how many times do we see the defending forward charge head on at the ball carrier, swing his arm at the ball carrying arm only for his arm to bounce up into the face of the attacker.

Poor play by Raynor with nasty consequences but I thought in RL the Refs judged the action not the result. Are we going to see every high tackle given a red card from now on or are we going to have some sort of scale that determines how serious the resultant injury is???
