Why on earth can't we do this? : Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:08 pm
On walking back from the pub after watching the World Club Challenge game in Toulouse I came across a 5ft by 2 1/2 ft advertising hoarding on one of the main boulevards in the city for tomorrow's game.I've taken a picture, I'll put it on when I get back home.
To put in to perspective, it was the kind of advertising display you'd see in almost any town or city centre. Either on a bus shelter or, like this one was, on it's own dedicated advertising hoarding.
In time of economic hardship the club needs to get off it's backside, work damn hard and go out in to the town and look for new fans. All I see at the moment is a half arsed effort. Facebook and Twitter campaigns are all good ideas but they require folk to be already liking or following in order to be effective.
We had a really good idea with the season tickets. But to be quite honest I've seen church fêtes promoted better than that was. I've lost count of the amount of the people who have come to me and said they only knew about the deal through me. Am I as a loyal fan, expected to do the clubs marketing job for them?
What ambition does the club have? Are they working on the rather arrogant assumption that "If you build it they will come"?
