COUGARS Head Coach Paul March was left furious by his side after a poor defensive display saw them fall to defeat at home to Doncaster.
March said: “I’m very disappointed today, a decent crowd has showed up to watch a good game of Rugby League and we’ve let ourselves down massively.
“The willingness to defend our line and the willingness to defend as a unit and for any side I’ve coached or played in, I want winners and today we didn’t look like we wanted to win, we just looked to go through the motions.
“The tempo of the game changed when Doncaster introduced Iafeta Paleaaesina and Makali Aizue and we upped our tempo at that point but they then went 80 metres to score and the lads heads just went.
“There will be changes next week at York, people can’t be getting into comfort zones and we’ve got a big enough squad which means there is pressure for places and the reserves showed on Thursday night that there are players who can come into this side.
March makes comments:
“The tempo of the game changed when Doncaster introduced Iafeta Paleaaesina and Makali Aizue and we upped our tempo at that point but they then went 80 metres to score and the lads heads just went.
Dare I ask the reason why: 'the lads heads just went'? Surely he is being paid to ensure that the lads heads DON'T GO?
Where does the problem lie? Our coach or our players?
Good to hear some of these comments but March said:
“I’m very disappointed today, a decent crowd has showed up to watch a good game of Rugby League and we’ve let ourselves down massively.
and it really is a BIG 'BUT':
What does Paul March actually mean with these comments? By which I mean (assuming that they have been accurately reported):
“The willingness to defend our line and the willingness to defend as a unit and for any side I’ve coached or played in, I want winners and today we didn’t look like we wanted to win, we just looked to go through the motions.
If this is the way in which he speaks to the players and EXPLAINS WHAT HE WANTS THEM TO DO ON THE FIELD OF PLAY IN ORDER TO WIN THE GAME then, just as I am, they must be confused!
So where are his reasons for:
• Not including any 'back' subs?
• Not playing a decent/recognised goal-kicker?
• Always playing 'down the middle' and rarely getting the ball out to the wings?
• Barely changing the restart kicks?
I can't be bothered listing any more as they would be the same as those which I have been posting since he took-over .....
However, I am looking forward to fewer 600 mile round-trips and overnight stays to watch the same old 'March Rubbish'. Roll-on next season in League 1, as I have little faith in the current set-up to deliver what we have been promised and, should I be proved wrong, then truly believe that we will continue to be a 'Yo-Yo' club yet again.
I've seen the good times and the bad, but this is worse than ever .... 'promises, promises' - A BIG SQUAD. But a 'Big Squad' is useless unless they have the ability (which most apparently do possess) so what, or who is the problem? Surely not our coach?
Why is the coach never to blame and always has excuses for inept displays? Am I wrong, or has he never blamed himself for any of our defeats?
P.S. When will his contract be renewed again, before he has achieved anything?
