I have only been wrong once and thats because I thought I was wrong but I was wrong I was right!

Petty authoritarians aren’t man enough to challenge the actions of a person face to face; instead they incite a forum of rumour, innuendo and half truths, and impose rude sanctions to discourage those who dare question fairness.

Anon.

Re: Widnes Game : Mon Mar 01, 2010 9:21 am
I think "blown away" is the phrase I'm looking for.

They dominated down the middle and shredded our right wing - man for man bigger, faster, stronger.

Their size advantage allowed them to push us off in the collision and they always gave second effort to make extra yards or break free. They either looked for the offload or went down on their faces to get fast PTB.

To our great credit we never gave up and the very few times we had them on the backfoot we actually looked good. Most of our players found it hard to make extra yards from the collision (except germaine who made some really great runs and perhaps Brendan). We need to generate second phase ball to open up defences and also need to learn when to go down fast to get a quick play the ball.

The players just looked overawed in the first 15 mins and showed Widnes far too much respect.

We gave away to many silly penalties and committed too many unforced errors.

Big, big learning curve.

I think we might see some big defeats this year but I also think we will produce some shocks - we need to make cougar park a fortress. I just hope that some of the fringe fans are not put off, we need support, especially at home.

This is the thing i am most worried about.
If we get a lot of beatings this year. And if a lot of them are by big scores, why would any new fans want to come and watch?
Also if this does happen, how many people will pay there hard earned money and give up there free time to come down and watch.

This season was always going to be hard enough.
What with the -9 as well.

The old board has made it twice as hard, as it should have been.

I can see your point Jim but the true hardcore fans will always go as I watch and support the players through thick and thin, thats not criticism of anyone just stating my view that loyal fans will go regardless.

It was brought home to me yesterday that instead of looking forward to a new season I am thinking of the mess caused by Spencer and the ill feeling caused by him and do not know how he has the gall to show his face at the club.

My message to any players reading this is I will be there home and away regardless of what happens off the field.

You have to think, how much more can the loyal fan take, before they start thinking of doing something else on a Sunday.

What about new fans. What reason will they have for coming down.

Also the more i think about it, there was more than one person on the old board. Yet he seems to be getting all the blame.

For me as dissapointing as the result was, it could be an eye opener for Barry the players and the coaching staff,we can learn a lot from teams like widnes than London skolars and whilst this is going to be a very hard season positives will be gained from it and the added experiences we will have can only be turned into our advantage.

The only way to get new fans along in spite of taking the odd beating - home and away - is to make the atmosphere so good at Cougar Park that it'll be great to be a part of, no matter what the score.
Cue drums, new songs, bring along a friend...

Mick from your post, i see you are expecting the fans to create the atmosphere.

I wonder what the club are going to do.
