Cougars slash the cost of season tickets. : Sun Oct 18, 2009 8:28 pm
Keighley Cougars, promoted to the Co-operative Championship for 2010 after beating Oldham in the Championship One Grand Final two weeks ago, have given their loyal fans a reward – they’ve cut the price of season tickets!

For next year a season ground ticket for an adult will cost £120 – a reduction of £20 on the 2009 tariff – and fans can earn a further ten per cent discount if they buy their season ticket before 18th December 2009. That’s a cost of £100!

If you wait until after 18th December 2009 a stand season ticket will cost £133 and a ground season ticket £120 but there’s a £20 saving if you purchase it before the deadline.

To bring the Cougars into line with the rest of the Co-operative Championship clubs, the cost of admission at a turnstile at Cougar Park on match day will, however, be increased from £11 to £14.

And the 2010 season tickets will go on sale at Cougar Park from Monday, October 19th.

The club office is open for season ticket sales from 9.30am until 4.00pm and if demand is sufficient extra opening hours could be arranged – watch the club’s web site (www.keighleycougars.info<http>) and the local media for developments.

Helen Carter, the Cougars’ General Manager, said: “We want to ensure that the Cougar fans get maximum value from their season tickets and we’re discounting them before December 18th so that they will make an ideal Christmas present for a Cougar fan.

“We’ve had to increase our gate prices to reflect the extra costs we will incur playing in the Championship and by putting the increase on the price paid at the turnstile it’ll help spread the load more fairly”.

The full tariff for both season ticket and gate admission prices at Cougar park for 2010 is as follows:-

A massive well done to all at Cougar Park for yet another forward thinking initiative.

Cheaper season tickets for better rugby can only equal more regular home fans through the gate.

Charging more through the gate will mainly exploit the larger away followings we'll get next season.

More fans in the ground will equal more merchandise and refreshment being sold.

In my opinion not only should our fans benefit but also the club should massively.

Increasing gate prices is wrong.

We wont get many more fans when you tell them it's £14 to enter. Really silly decision in my opinion.

Super League teams don't charge much more than that.

I don't really have a problem with it.

£11 was pretty low IMO.

If we want to move forward then we'll have to match other clubs revenue.

Plus, the £100 season ticket offers good value.

Hi

I have charged matchday admission at £14 after ringing round all the clubs in the Championship to see what they were charging and £14 was the cheapest so i was just putting us in line with what they charge on the day.

Making the season tickets cheaper i have tried to reward our home fans.

Hope that makes sense

I wasn't trying to criticise at all, but I feel that when the people of Keighley have the choice of £14 to watch a semi-professional team in the second tier or about £17 to watch Bradford or Leeds for example, they are always going to watch the better teams.

£14 might be the cheapest offer in our league, but I still feel it's quite high. I've mentioned to people before about going to watch our team Keighley and they're surprised that it is £11 to get in and feel a bit put off by that and I don't feel we'll get just as many new comers at this higher price.

I've been to Brammall Lane a couple of times and it's a rip off compared to a lot of other football championship grounds.i

It also has automated turnstiles so you'll probably have to queue for a while at the ticket office before getting in.

Only plus sides compared to Don Valley is it's easier to get to by public transport and no running track.

We need a better team. That will mean players need more wages.
That money has to come from somewhere.

I do take Connors point and its a very good one. Pay £14 and watch the Cougars, or pay £17 to watch the best team in the game.

How do the Cougars, get people to make the choice of watching them or someone else?

This is where, the Cougars have to really go out and hit the schools in the area.
This is where, the Cougars have to make the whole game day experience something worthwhile.
This is where the Cougars, have to get more money coming in from sponsors.

Are they up to it, well only time will tell wont it.
