For those who are not aware today the mps have voted on nhs reforms although there is expected to be further amendments once it reaches the house of Lords, basically gp's are to have control of whether the private sector or nhs pays for an individuals treatment, BMA and others are concerned the private sectors will be able to cherry pick the treatments they could provide to maximise their profits and nhs gets the crap to deal with. Imagine a private sector company says to a gp if you let us do leg operations we wil give hefty discount at the golf club or next batch of medicines, this does not benefit the patient as the prescription charge is static. Anyone who honestly believes the nhs will not see an increase over time of private sector involvement at the detriment of the nhs are in my view somewhat misguided. Yes we all know there are problems and some ineffiency in the nhs but it is a massive organisation and these things will happen but the NHS is unique and something we should be proud of. There has been by the government of today and previously by the tories in particular to run it down, thankfully folk eventually woke up to the fact they wanted to dismantle it not for the greater good but ideaoligical ideas. The day they tried making the nhs into trusts was the start of the slide towards privatising it. It is first and foremost a service and needs to be remembered. There are now more pen pushers etc than needed at the expense of the folk actually needed- Nurses and Doctors. I have nothing against some private sector involvement if it benefits everyone and not just shareholders. Since the election the government and I include the lib dems have quashed the 18 week time limit for anyone unfortunate to be diagnosed with cancer, this is not saving a penny so why do it, my view is to drive into peoples minds over a period of time the fact waiting times are increasing and to make folk more unhappy with this and instead of blaming the politicians who made the decision they blame NHS as its a sitting target. Its very easy to complain about the NHS but the people that complain are in the minority and they get all the attention the millions including my family over the years have had very little to grumble about. Privatisation of the railways, gas, water and electric have proved a disaster with prices that have have gone up dramatically and well above inflation purely for profits. Remember once the NHS gives further ground to private sector it cannot return to how it is and was envisaged many years ago. |
