The Oympic Torch Relay is due in Keighley on the 24th June at around 15.41 and will leave keighley via Skipton Road at the junction with Hard Ings Road shortly afterwards,thats according to the BBC website.
Keighey are at home to Batley on that day kick 14.00.(might have to think about the kick off time)Lets all hope the Cougars marketing department goes into overdrive on this one and makes the most of what can only be seen as a golden opportunity to market the club, The torch that represents the greatest sporting event on the planet and then we have the Cougars,The greatest Rugby League club on the planet,not a bad combination for a summer Sunday afternoon.

Wouldn't it be great if the KO could be changed for this game only to, say, 14.55 - depending on the general average predicted times being correct. But the accuracy of the predictions should be known well-before the game and, with a minimum of thought, the KO could be adjusted appropriately.

After all, the Olympic movement was based on 'amateurism' but that no-longer applies to our so-called athletes who are subsidised to their eye-balls and yet are permitted to retain their multi-million pound earnings from competeing and appearance money. Yet they still complain until they are 'signed-up' by the BBC as 'expert' comentators - like Jonathan Davies - aka 'God's gift to Rugby Union and Rugby League' or 'Gobbie Paul', sorry 'Hunter' whatever - the failed rapper of Northern.

Is it too late for the torch to be diverted through Cougar Park and paraded around the pitch at (if necessary an elongated) half-time so that the 1,500+ fans (who otherwise would miss the 'once-in-a-lifetime-experience') could see it? After all - we're paying for it, so why sould we be denied the experience? Do you know who will be carrying it?

Come-on Cougars, BDMC Councillors and our MP - sort it for Keighley and the work that the Cougars are doing for the community!

Its something that has to be looked into.

Think the route shown see's it going down north street, skipton road and away.

The route could be altered slightly I think by going North St, Cavendish St, Lawkholme Lane, enter Cougar Park at the exit gate at Petrol Station end, across the pitch diagonally, pausing on the centre spot and saluting the crowd, then out the main gate and away.

Also might be an idea to involve someone from both Keighley & Batley, head coaches or captains maybe. I know JD & John Kear liked to be focused on the game, but surely this is a one-off event, never to be repeated.

Given the fact (from previous posts) that no-one from the Club deigns to even look at this site, then it looks as though there's little hope of any potential intervention.

That said, we can only 'live in hope' as we have for the past 75 years, although 'We was robbed' in 1976!

Let's hope that we can bring some influence to bear this time round with 'Fat Cat' Coe!

The route is now locked in and will not change except for in an emergency situation.

It makes you wonder who made the decision on the route through Keighley. Was there any consultation with local sporting clubs or is it yet another case of 'Do as I say ....'

If the Olympic movement won't move for the Cougars, the Cougars could move for the Olympic movement and host the match say an hour earlier. Not only might we get a much bigger crowd out (if advertised properly) but we can then all go and watch the torch carrying and shout Cougars to the rooftops (and have Cougar banners etc).

Just to add insult to injury there's apparently no-one with the appropriate credentials from Keighley (which I find difficult to believe) to carry the Torch through our town. We're having to rely on someone from Halifax! They already have several Halifax-based people carrying the Torch through Halifax - obviouusly too many to fit into the Halifax route, so their 'surplus/extra' is being foisted on us!

'Just give us the £9 Billion and we'll sort it out for us'

might have been the conversation when the £3 Billion was increased to £9! Then Coe & Co will want their 'performance bonusses' on top of their inflated egos and salaries waiting for their next opportunity to fleece the taxpayers of this country!
