Doncaster : Sun Jan 20, 2013 5:27 pm
Looking at the Doncaster page it looks like our pre-season reads LWLL.

I'm looking forward to Micky's video and the views from those who were there.

I know March has said the fans should be looking forward to a more expansive game this season, but my question is have we focussed on that to the detriment of our defence. We seem to be conceding some soft tries. It's early days and the season hasn't even begun yet, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little alarmed by our pre-season showing thus far.

Re: Doncaster : Sun Jan 20, 2013 6:03 pm
Just on my way home after a pretty disapointing and frustrating afternoon at the Keepmoat.

For long periods of the game but especially the first 30 we really weren't at the races and our defence was at times non existent and when we were in posession making daft errors that just gifted the Dons the ball back.
We looked more livley in the second 40 , with Jamaines introduction from the bench , he seemed to bring a bit more urgency to our play . Also Shick put himself about a bit ,young Josh Lynham put in a solid stint in the 2nd row. And Mossy looked up for the game at full back.
Some good stuff but still without doubt a work in progress..

Shocking attendance 341 think the figure was...

Defence has deteriorated. We don't seem to make the contact count. They had some big strong running forwards that we didn't keep on top of.

Looking forward to seeing our first game with our best 17, but it's going to be a tough start to the season without more improvement I feel.

Re: Doncaster : Sun Jan 20, 2013 7:16 pm
I agree a little and find it a little alarming but at the same time its hard to judge when in freindlies the players are always coming on and off the pitch as well trying out new things. Ok Doncaster will be on a high after the season they had but I would still like to think that with us having a season in the championship under our belt we would have beaten donny and not forgetting we only just won at Barrow.

I cant remember the event I was at a Cougar park when our Chairman and coach said they were predicting a top 4 finish for us and that we were going to be playing a different style of rugby to last season but I agree with the comment regarding our defence, yes we needed to score more points than last season but at the same time we were solid in defence and many teams found it so hard getting through us even when they had us pinned back on our own line.

It will be interesting to see the team that faces Batley in our first game and all we can do is support, believe and get behind our Coach and the club for what hopefully is going to be another exciting season in the championship. I think after the first 6 maybe 7 games we will have a rough idea of the seaon we are in for because there is a good mix of fixtures in there.

Come on COUGARS

Re: Doncaster : Sun Jan 20, 2013 7:57 pm
Have I missed the score in the previous posts?

Looks like a typical performance against Doncaster - we only just scraped-home when we played them in C1 and we never perform well there.

So, is this Doncaster post correct on both counts?

Dons 36 Keighley 22
We have nothing to fear in this division.

Re: Doncaster : Sun Jan 20, 2013 9:07 pm
Doncaster may do OK but have plenty to fear from what I have seen. I thought their only good play was a clever kick down their left wing into clear space and collected for a try in the corner. They ran hard and fast, so they clearly have maintained their spirit. Other than that I felt our defence just didn't hold well enough and gave them gaps, rather than them working moves to create gaps. I feel Keighley have more talent but needed to cut the errors and stop gifting possession which was key today.

Mind you it also helped them to have Bobbie Goulding Jr who is on the Wakefield squad playing for them today.
The score is correct, I think 3 of our 4 scorers were daley williams, barnett, schickel...
Leatherbarrow missed one kick

I.M.O. I think the defence needs to be worked on , the three matches I have seen this
season thusfar there has been a number of easy tries for the opponents all from silly schoolboy
errors.
Another point that bothers me is Soupys comment about Goulding Jr , it
isn't all gonna be players that are coming back from injury or just need game time that the SL teams send to championship
teams ..... there are going to be classy players popping up in championship sides all
season, the downside of not partnering a SL side I Suppose.

COME ON THE COUGARS !!!!!

I agree BurleyCougar, the team needs to be prepared for SL players to appear more often in our opponents teams. It will make it difficult to play against them. I just wonder how often Bobbie will play for Donny.

Anyway can't wait for Batley away in two weeks! Cooouuugarrsss!!!

From 'Wikipedia'

Dual registration

Clubs in both the Engage Super League and the Co-operative Championships are to benefit from the new dual registration system which was been introduced for the 2010 season.[16]

Dual registration refers to an arrangement between clubs whereby a player continues to be registered to his current Super League club and is also registered to play for a club in the Championship or Championship 1.

The dual registration system is aimed at young Super League players who are thought to be not quite ready to make the step up to ‘week in, week out’ Super League first team duties but for whom first team match experience is likely to be beneficial for their development.

Only Engage Super League players can be dual registered and the receiving club must be a club in the Championships, meaning that Super League to Super League club dual registrations are not available.

The player must be under 23 on August 31 in the year preceding the season in which the proposed dual registration will apply so for 2010, players who were not yet 23 on August 31, 2009 can be dual registered.

A dual registered player will be eligible to play and train with both clubs in a format agreed between the clubs, subject to registration, salary cap and competition eligibility rules.

The player is restricted to playing in one fixture per scheduled round of fixtures in any given week and would not be eligible to play in a Championships fixture on a Thursday and for his Super League club at the weekend.

The new ‘dual registration’ system is intended to complement the existing player loan system.

The current limit on the number of players a receiving club can utilise will also apply to ‘dual registered’ players. Therefore a receiving club will be limited to a total of four loaned and/or dual registered players, and no more than three loaned and/or dual registered players from the same club.

I suppose that it will all depend on how long the Super League club is willing to pay a non-performing player who is included in their Salary Cap before they make the decision to let them move-on.
