I get your reasoning but I think a glut of supporters started watching Trinity about that time, late 80's early 90's. After 10 years in the doldrums we started to move back up, also RL was on a real high at that point, in all my time watching the game that period was the only period where RL was in the public mind. This shirt was our first attempt at the new age and although not a classic it is historical and iconic. If nothing else it reflect the point the game had reached pre-SL pre-summer, it just brings back the damp air, the smell of stale beer and fags and people still drinking Bovril and it was our first stab at a commercial kit. It reminds me of a different world, nice in its own way.
