This stuff is hardly new - you can buy a wearable device for 50 quid now that gives you most of the same info on your own activity. My fecking watch tells me to stand up and walk around every hour!

I guess what is becoming more and more prevalent is the connectedness of all this stuff and the sophisticated amount of data that can be extracted from it via a laptop or tablet, that would once have been inaccessible to a lowly RL club, for budget reasons. A half decent sports scientist can now mine massive amounts of training and fitness date from equipment that you can buy on Amazon for just a few hundred quid.

When 5G is cooking our brains and sending all our security data to the Chinese government, the internet of things will actually take off; at which point a determined conditioner could track Pauli Pauli's calorie and macro-nutrient intake on a live basis, and tell his fridge to restock with salad and lean chicken rather than pizza and crisps. Scary stuff.

Everyone has a right to their opinions of differance, however, the problem is that if the RL, SL, in this country ignore the sports science as suggested or implied on the replies on this forum then the game & players will be further behind as in the late seventies - eighties where we had to try & catch up or make-up ground.
As pop tart identifies, we are not up to speed with the USA & Aus !! ??

I've heard similar stories in boxing / MMA. You have these "gym warriors" who can beat the snot out of the best in sparring, but put them under the lights with thousands of people watching and they freeze.

As a former competitor in Martial Arts and now Trainer, it's absolutely spot on and well known across all gyms, infact if you believe everything you hear every gym has a potential World Champion if only they could produce it in the ring/cage. So many guys can bring it on training days and say if they're training kickboxing can look like Ernesto Hoost, knocking good guys out or just out working them and looking a million dollars but on fight night look lost. It really is a strange thing and is a mixture of what's between the ears and under the rib cage. As always pure talent only gets you so far.

I haven't seen anyone suggest that RL should ignore it - and to my knowledge, it doesn't; this stuff is in everyday use at all SL clubs, hence the black neoprene bras that you see when a player pulls his shirt off - that has the GPS and heart monitor attached.

It's our own "government" that worries me. And the brain fries obviously.

I'd say RL is up front with some of this stuff compared to some sports but we do need to keep pace.
The technology is fantastic and for me exciting rather than scary, but I think the area to improve is the analysis and understanding of the data.
