Inferiority Complex? : Sun Oct 18, 2020 10:16 am
Just reading yesterday what Wrencat said about this is Trinity and this is what we are etc, generally a mid to lower table team and so on, just got me thinking. Which prompted me to reply to him yesterday, why should it be that way? I brought up examples of other clubs in other sports, and in RL where simply having money doesn't always equate guaranteed success, obviously it helps, but you still need to make good recruitment decisions, not just players but your whole backroom staff etc, etc.I just feel with what he said, it's like an acceptance that certainly since the '60's Wakefield Trinity are then forever to be an also ran, never to reach any heights of success ever again, like we actually revel in being a 'little' club, or being the underdog, written off but sometimes, occasionally that dog does have it's day, but only very occasionally. It's like whenever it goes pear shaped on or off the field it's always someone else's fault.
The facts are we have fallen off the edge of a cliff since midway through last season, such a massive turnaround in fortunes in such a short space of time, yes some mitigating factors, injuries being the most obvious, but at the end of the day, it is OUR fault we are where we are, not James Child, not the RFL, not Covid or anything else. It can't be a co-incidence that we are the only team to have failed to win a single game since the re-start, it can't be a co-incidence that we are currently the only club in Super League not to have appeared in a final in the last 20 years or so. We have reached the year 2020 and the ground is still a dump, barely fit for purpose, it was barely fit for purpose in 2010, 2000, 1990........
As a club we have a chip on our shoulder, the press conference involving Carter & Chester was an exercise in self pity, any Super league Chairman & Coach could have done the same, every club will have their tale of woe since the re-start, it is not exclusive to us!
We are indebted to the current chairman in many ways, and he picked up the pieces from the previous incumbent(s) who left the club in a financial mess (again). I don't envy him one bit trying to steer the ship through these choppy waters, but we just gotta stop playing the victim all the time and start helping ourselves!! We have got to somehow get off the hamster wheel of being inferior to everybody else and find some way in the future of NOT just being that lower end of the table team all the time. After the MPG Carter said we can't keep having these games, but yet here we are again, last year and this if there had been relegation.
