Unfortunately not living in Wakefield the U19s and academy games are difficult to get down and see. But your right the two above mentioned are a vital cog in the development of young players to a club like Wakefield Trinity and needs to be supported.
Maybe some of these games could be played as curtain raisers ( if not already).
Over the years we have looked on with envy at Leeds and Wigan’s youth setups and while I’m certainly not an authority on how our setup functions, it appears that strides are being made in the right direction in this department with the efforts of Mark Applegarth. While I know Widnes decision will most likely of been financial ,what a shame their academy has been disbanded after producing some great talent,Of which one player now plays for our team.
Hopefully in the future with the new facilities down at Belle Vue and a brand new 4G pitch this area will go from strength to strength with more youth team players progressing to the first team.
