You can never have too many DW type players, well I suppose you can but as there are not that many about it’s not likely.
Not blessed with any obvious gifts he is an all rounder but above all he just plays the game. A much under valued commodity.
slightly OT but every time I mention Hampshire and claim he isn’t the world class HB we all once hoped he’d be I cause one poster palpitations and I don’t know why. He’s just like Washy but with a fair bit more skill added. He’s all in and all committed and would have a place in most of my team selections.
For reasons that baffles me Utility player is seen as a stigma, I see it as a premium. TJ may win us games and royally entertain but he can’t do so without a platform, one usually provided by a utility player.
If I were building a team from scratch I’d sign a Washbrook or a Hampshire or a Crowther long before I signed TJ or Lino.
For me these multi talented players should be revered every bit as much as the specialist. Imho even international squads need a couple. It’s a specialism in its own right as far as I’m concerned.
