The Academy discussion starts on 1hr.10min into the program. Chris, talking for about 10/15 mins on the subject. Talks with passion about the trinity Academy and the lads who have come through over the years, I got the impression that without an academy system we would struggle to find enough affordable players. The RFL have sent out the applications, and so far Mark Applegarth, has completed about 120 pages of the application. Craig Harrison thinks we should be ok because some clubs have indicated that they may not even apply for a license, due to running costs.

Just out of interest would it be possible to go in to a joint venture with let's say Newcastle. I know both Hull clubs joined up. Not sure what the downfalls may be but could it be an option.
Its a must for Wakefield to be in the mix, what SL clubs have no interest.

I’m guessing the two clubs not wanting an Academy are Salford and Leigh.

they did at one time but I'm sure they went back to their own academies, I fear because we are in a close proximity to other clubs it will be us that will be declined, the more clubs working on developing lads into the game the better

just dumb what the rfl are doing

IF the sport is restricting the number of academies to 12, we need our bumps feeling.
This sounds like some convoluted way of engineering which clubs may be accepted in SL ??

It's in the interests of the sport to have as many fully supported academies as possible and to nurture as much talent to a high standard.

There was talk that as some point, clubs would need their own academy to be considered for SL.
IF clubs are prevented from obtaining a license, it will, at some point, affect their ability to play in SL.

As usual, the devil is in the detail and this begins to have a nasty whiff about it.

London should receive central funding in order to run an Academy, their success in producing players is phenomenal plus they have a massive target area of untapped talent. Likewise whatever they do at Bradford seems to work their record and not just in the past of producing players is first class.
