It was good to see our 2nd rowers and loose forward getting in on the tries. They also put in some good tackling stints on the edges. Jay Pitts is growing in stature every week and Batch is taking his opportunity well while Matty Ashurst is out, also I thought Eddy Battye made a big difference while he was on the pitch, with the ball and his tackling.

Westerman, perhaps rightly, is getting the headlines, but Pitts has been excellent.

Pitts I was critical of a few weeks ago but he has hit some form. Whatever he’s doing more of the same please!

Talking of second rowers. We have a young second rower in the under 19s that looks the real deal in Leon Ruen too. He’s a very big unit and is skittling his opposing players at U19 level. Scored 2 try’s, unlucky not to have a few more in last game vs Wire.

In a way I prefer Pitt’s to Westerman but not by much. Not as flash but his decision making especially in defence is first class. He’s brilliant at shutting down the opposition. When the rest of the team start to stand off and the opposition start to probe he just goes for the man with the ball and cuts him down, he takes on responsibility, I like that.

In the recent games Vasty, I have noticed that Pitts comes in at the angle to tackle and more often than not catches them unawares.
It did it beautifully to Gale a few times and has been doing it since.
I was a bit unsure about him, but fair play, he's been excellent in the last 5 games.

Since starting as a young prop out of our Academy, I don't think Pitts has ever had a bad game for us though I agree that his form this year has been superb.

That's the one, takes guts and self-belief to do that, once committed you can look a fool if you don't pull it off. That's leadership in my book.

Pitts went up in my estimation when he leathered McIllorum in the CC last year.

Unfortunately, we were on a roll and it gave the impetus back to Catalans and they scored from the next set. Game over.
