Will they ever get it right? Stopped listening to Radio Leeds, watching Look North and reading YEP years ago. They all believe that Yorkshire starts and finishes with Leeds. The YEP did it for me when the "Wakefield and Five Towns" edition had Leeds Rhinos as the Headline story when both Trinity and Cas had both been playing.

Off Topic, I know, but have you noticed how TV documentary makers seem to think that the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorks Moors are the ONLY areas of countryside in Yorkshire worth visiting? There's some beautiful countryside in the south of the county between Wakefield and Sheffield and around Holmfirth that gets totally ignored. The BBC are one of the biggest culprits of giving it no recognition.

I don't know what you are all on about, Wakefield is only a city because of the cathedral, it has slowly lost city status in Yorkshire for several years, most item's have been moved to Leeds the last being dioceses, Wakefield is in the diocese of Leeds & is heading for being in the so named "City area of leeds" similar to the GMC & GLC, Leeds will take over, eventually.
Our council s long term plan for the city is to create a new council housing estate with in the city centre, it does not understand city status & never has, we are 5 towns which will become 6 more under leeds.
Soon there will be no Wakefield College, this is set to be " Yorkshire College" so the college may eventually stop playing rugby league & therefore another arm lost to trinity !!!!

Sorry guys, my last post was to play devil's advocate, but I love wakey & I have slowly watched it die since the 1960s.

With you on the concern the council seems hell bent on filling any empty space in the city centre with affordable homes. There is no plan to make the city an attraction to businesses nor tourists. Discount and pound shops will be all that's left while the wealth goes to Leeds.

I like the Councils cheek. There are hoardings on the fence surrounding the old Chantry House site on the Kirkgate gyratory (ooh! did you like that?), proclaiming that; "This site acquired by Wakefield Council"
As far as I know they've owned that site since at least 1986.
