RFL regulations are not legally binding, however as it's their competition so if you want to play in it you comply as best you can, but technically they have no power whatsoever to fine anyone or to collect that fine. For that, they would need a court order, which they wouldn't get, so they couldn't send the bailiffs. If we were guilty of a criminal breach then the courts would pass it over to the Police and the CPS, not the RFL.

It's all very much a gentleman agreement.

Failure to adhere to the governing bodies articles is a breach of membership, so yes, you can refuse to pay a sanction, but in doing so you also forfeit your membership, and are no longer affiliated to the Rugby Football League. That means bye bye.

It's also a condition of membership that a member cannot take legal action against the RFL. In practice a member CAN take legal action, but forfeit membership by doing so, with no right to re-instatement. That means bye bye also.

Yep. I was talking in legal terms, as I said to do so would be utterly stupid and breed anarchy. You’d get your money back no probs and lose your trade so counterproductive in the extreme.

That said it’s now possible in the U.K. to vandalise a statue and then destroy it on camera in front of hundreds of witnesses and be cleared of criminal damage, so I’m not sure that any form of authority can’t be challenged and overcome these days. It a free for all as far as I can see, as demonstrated by the number of people unchallenged for not wearing a mask in supermarkets.

Yeah that didn't go well with me either. There was a proper way to go about having the statue removed, but mob rule won the day and all is now forgiven. I really don't get it but nothing in this world surprises me any more.
