I remember George Shepherd saying to us after he signed for Leeds from Wakey he was a hooker for those that don't go that far back, Roy Francis the coach always taught not to follow the ball just back up and the ball will come to you.

They have simply got two class players who they can't afford to leave one out, the man in form keeps the No1 spot and other will be accommodated in another position, didn't see much talk of it when we had Max and Rocky playing together, one played full back the other slotted in where he was needed, difference is they weren't on silly money like these 2 are and Chester wasn't under pressure to play them both together, personally I think they'll look silly stood beside each other at full back, keep it simple I say for the benefit of us non coaching enthusiastic supporters

why not experiment with a different structure in much the same way that football has 4-4-2 or 3-5-1-1 etc.

Wigan currently has 2 class Full Backs and a conundrum about which one to play where, so why not play with 2 Full Backs?
Who says that you must have 2 Half Backs and 2 Centres?
Why not play with 1 HB, 1 Centre and have an extra forward on the field then let the HB and the 2 FBs dictate play

It would certainly cause problems for the opposition defences trying to employ a well practiced system designed to play against a conventional attacking set up

Probably if the players were of sufficient quality to relearn and then execute a game plan which was set out in such a way

Don’t see much evidence of that.

Stand off was the first to go, 6,7,9 are fundamentally doing the same thing.

Then props then LF, the pack today consists of very similar players, the middles as they are called.

Wingers at some clubs are just SR’s whilst FB has gone from being a fairly unimportant position to the premier attacking roll.

So tbh if someone’s from the 1970’s saw a game today he’d barely recognise it.

Also player definitions seem very loose now with a number of players able to switch roles not just from game to game but during a game. Not to cover injuries either but for tactical reasons.

Not arguing your point on this specific one but over all the game has been evolving rapidly in the last 20 years.

Agree To me it is just like the winger dropping back for kick on 6th tackle

Of course, it could be unique, but it could also be a disadvantage !
