If he is out back up option we are in bother.

I suspect though Kaye and we will utilise our duel reg relationship before we go down using Walmsley as a 1.

When have you seen him playing fullback?

Several times during his time at Whitehaven particularly when he first came over and also when he dropped in there at Halifax during games.

Dont think I ever saw him start a game there when he was at Fax though.

Iro has never been available. Sharks have no appetite to release him. He asks, they said no.

I haven’t seen him play FB, but to me he’s an out and out winger, not a utility back. We saw it with Franco last season, they are not always interchangeable as people think.

Sometimes it works, moderately successful with Kay.

What people seem to be missing is the strategy we are using. Kelly used it 24 years ago, and Leigh did last season. The team you start with is not the team you finish with.

The nearer we get to the end of the season the more players of quality will be added. There is no point filling your team with players who you don’t think will make the leap to SL because you think you need to cover every position three fold. Ellis is rich but he won’t want to waste his money

So why buy a second rate FB now when come June you might be able to pick up a quality one, either domestic or NRL.

Realistically the squad we have now with a few more additions should keep us in contention for the first two thirds of the season. We don’t need to win every battle, just the last one.

I think some people still view promotion as it was in the 1970s but it’s changed. You can scrape into the play offs so long as you can win them. Look at Fev and London. London hit unexpected form and Fev had nothing left in the tank and no money to fill up

Come the end of June all things going to plan I expect to see an influx of SL standards players.

Be patient, it’s a long game.

He played at full back for south Newcastle in 1st grade. Highlights on him on you tube where he scored a lot of tries from that position.

His attacking ability is not in doubt.

Yes and this will have been 4 years ago at least? I can’t see him playing anywhere other than wing. We would use Kay at full back first and probably others.

I agree. Would be nice to have back up but to Vasty's point, we'd be better off waiting and the Wigan deal or pick up someone not getting a game in Super League.
If something happens in a game Kay can cover.

The DR deal with Wigan is ideal for covering areas where we lack depth, and I agree with most that FB is an obvious one.

DR is an excellent vehicle if used correctly. Like everyone else I'd like to see our own youth given the chance, but there will be occasions where that simply isn't possible. This deal with Wigan may prove to be vital imo.

"1st grade", well yes, but in the 4th tier of Australian rugby league.

In any case, Walmsley's specific skillset is based around his finishing on the wing - he's an exceptional finisher with a real nose for the tryline out wide and also a knack for long-range interception tries. He was runaway leading Championship tryscorer last year in a fairly average Halifax team and should do so again, perhaps by an even wider margin, in what should be a much stronger team this year. He can be a bit feeble defensively but that shouldn't be tested too much this season.
