The original post dated 14th Match 2019, post title Hull FC. Discussion over Gareth Ellis being a hit man for Hull at times. Huge disagreement from other posters saying he doesn't do that ! He has today, he did in his last game against Catalan ! Hull supporters say he is our enforcer ! Gareth is a skillful player but in his latter years, he has this attitude in his game. I hope MCB, is ok & doesn't suffer any repercussions, we are down on numbers.

What a crock of poop!!! Ellis caught Caton Brown high as he was going down it wasn’t intentional and thought the yellow was harsh. The one against Catalan Bird fell into Ellis’ arm which remained static and wasn’t moving towards Bird.
He certainly wasn’t poor today either far from it.
At 37, Ellis is still a class act and it's no coincidence that since his return to the side, Hull's performances and attitude have dramatically improved.

If you say so watch his missed tackles poor tackling technique, it’s an age thing, trust me like I say been a good un, if not one of the best, but times up.

Officer: "Wherupon the defendant fell into my arm m'lud"
It just isn't in his nature to be the enforcer. He is a big tackler and as said, when age catches up you lose something, but not your integrity. I would certainly say this is his last season but he's played a big part in getting Hull back on track so they won't want him to go yet.
not the player he was but still worthy of his place, brings leadership and can still hurt in the tackle, one of those players that seem to bring out the best in others around him,
Ellis has always played hard, and when you play like that it's inevitable that you will cross the line every now and then. Especially now that he is older and the speed and reflexes perhaps aren't what they were. But he isn't and never has been a cheap shot merchant. Take that tackle yesterday, quicker man trying to get on the outside of him, so he goes diving in to make a tackle and catches him high. Yes it's a penalty, and the yellow card is fair, but there isn't a bit of malice in it. The one on Bird the other week doesn't even deserve a mention, he fell head long into him, very little Ellis could have done to avoid it.
As a player Ellis is now average imo. If you were just picking him based on playing ability then he wouldn't be in the team, in fact he would probably still be retired. However, he has a presence about him, he just seems to lift everyone around him and make them believe, and in a team that can sometimes be a bit mentally weak, he is very important. One of the best leaders the game has seen, and that's why he is still playing.
