Well, it shouldn't matter but it usually does in some way, who is the Ref on Saturday ?

Does it really matter? Despite the widely held belief amongst many fans from all clubs, refs very very very rarely cost teams games, poor discipline does. Fans only ever notice the decisions both right and wrong against their own team, they rarely notice that it almost always evens up regarding the opposition.

I've honestly seen no more than a dozen games in 15 years where bad reffing has cost us, I've seen maybe 2 games where the ref let it get personal and that pure conjecture on my part.

If we are better than Catalan on the day we will win even if Gigot's mum was reffing, well maybe not his mum as he loves her.

I think that it does matter to us but not because any given referee is treating us unfairly but because of the speed of the game and the amount of time the ref allows for the tackle/wrestle. We often struggle in slow tempo games.
Our main attacking strength is the big guys pull everyone to the middle then a fast PTB to allow our wingers in.

I would always prefer one of the top refs for this reason.

Agree on this, there is so much inconsistency amongst referees, especially with how they manage the ruck, I actually think Hewer is the only ref that manages it well - You have the likes of Childs that now lets literally everything in the ruck go and actually punishes the attacking player for quick play of the balls and gives no reward for winning the ruck/dominating the collision, and then you have the likes of Kendall that pick up on everything and his blowing his whistle every two minutes and slowing the game down to a ridiculous pace.

Turning it on its head, I would say we are poor/naïve at playing the refs. The more inexperienced the ref the more we suffer or don't gain. Always pleased when we have the VR.

In the balance of fairness...I thought the ref had a very good game today! We’re quick to come on and criticise when they appear poor but I thought he had a very good game!

The only real big poor decision was the forward pass for their try which should have been called by the linesm like Jowitt’s was...

According to Chessie's after match press interview, he said we have history with that linesman.
