Stats from the Leeds game : Mon Jun 10, 2019 8:04 pm
I know stats don't tell the full story but they do tell part of it.Our forwards did a lot of work. Not all effective but the effort was there and the stats show it.
Wood didn't start the game but managed to make 37 tackles and top our tackle count.
That is traded off with 6 misses unfortunately though only 2 error and no penalties
Kelepi was the outstanding player for us as far as the man of steel points go
He did 28 tackles and made 151 metres which was the most for Trinity with an average gain of 8 metres and 3 tackle busts.
He made 2 off loads but also made 3 errors and missed 7 tackles
Batch went off pretty early so only made 18 tackles but he didn't have one miss.
He did give a penalty away.
Crowther made a massive 35 tackles, which like Wood was made off the bench so even more impressive.
He didn't make great yards with an average of 4 across 7 runs and he gave 2 penalties away and made 1 error.
Looking at those stats I make a conclusion that the guys that stay on longer and make more tackles also make errors. Fatigue in the team needs to be managed better though, when 2 go off not to return that is clearly a diffficult task.
With that in mind though, the stand out for me was King as he made 31 tackles with no misses.
He made 50 metres for an average gain of 6 metres but made no errors and gave no penalties away.
I don't want to see one out no error rugby. I like the way we throw the ball around. But having someone like King in the team allows the likes of Kelepi to take a chance and run the ball.
Unfortunately for us, Leeds stats were also pretty good with Watkins making 51 tackles with only 1 miss. No errors. No penalties. 8 metre average gain and Harry Newman making 16 tackle busts!
