How many games are left this short season ? : Tue Sep 01, 2020 6:59 pm
Not sure but is it 8 or 10 ?
However, whatever, some serious thought needs to be given & crafted to next season,
I have been a supporter of big dave, but & 31 now much more is left in him ? He has backed himself into a corner, someone has to
Loose face for the situation to be resolved !!
Big Dave came @ 26/27, we need that next season with a player that age & a pack leader , urgently.
We also need a half back game controller, someone to make things happen !
Question, can we do this, will we do this, or as I suspect, stay as we are due to expense !!!
Please can we plan now rather than panic next mid season ????

Can we really afford not to get the on field situation Sorted ,or we will lose fans in droves and all the hard work that’s been done over the last few years on and off the field will be for nothing.Only the diehard fans will keep turning up to watch a team win the odd game and then lose their next 4 .whatever needs doing it certainly needs sorting before we’re half way through next season and sat at the foot of the table, and desperate .Players and staff come and go ,but we must keep the club going at all costs whatever that entails.

Dave is still awesome
He’s got a tonne left in his tank, he hardly played any regular top level footy before he came to the Uk

The hole team aren’t playing the best at the moment

We just need a spark from some where, I really do think we need a scrum half who can run the plays and has a good kicking game

Dave will come good again I am sure

I don’t think he is it’s nothing to do with the current situation.

One he doesn’t look after himself but true he could get away with that, some do. Not sure that a lack of games in his younger days gives him a longer run but it’s hard to say.

The two biggies for me are his attitude, which to me at least has always looked suspect though I concede that whilst with us he seems to have done ok. That said few of us knows what goes on behind the scenes.

Secondly that foot injury. Never fully diagnosed and has taken an age to heel, assuming it actually has. Those oddball injuries can be career killers.
Daves biggest strength is his mobility for such a big man, if that’s compromised he becomes just a standard prop. In the same way that if TJ lost his pace. Still be good players but probably no longer special.

Love it if all this is wrong and he wants to stay but somehow I don’t think he does. Likewise if CC has the man management skills to pull him back I’m not sure he would want to.

Not many have commented on this but poor though we were against Warrington we still looked better than we did with him. Coincidence? Maybe.

Let's put it this way I'd swap a good scrum half/organiser, and better team attitude any day for the present day David Fifita.

I am really not happy at all with David Fifita making this trouble over such a piffling issue at such a difficult time. That said, he has been an awesome player for us, though if he got himself in better shape, he'd be even better.
To be fair to him, he can't do it all on his own. Out of our current pack, the only player who knocks defences back reasonably regularly is Tanginoa. The rest don't look to have the power at this level and the new rules have amplified that from my observations. There's a lot of criticism of our 6 and 7 but when there's no go forward, no halves can do well. On the rare occasions we get on the front foot, you see them playing some highly creative rugby. The No1 problem is a pack with no punch for me. Fifita was one of our few who provide it and he has let us down big time

The number 1 problem for me is the lack of any decent kicking game. Would save the forwards a hellova lot of work.

One of the things that DF does well is a quick play of the ball. Sometimes he seems to be getting up to play the ball before he has hit the deck (or in his prime for us he did). Quick ptb's put the team on the front foot and have the opposition back pedalling.

We could have signed Brett Ferres  :)

I agree, although I can`t quite pinpoint what it is exactly something is just not quite right about Dave since he has returned. You expect any player to take a while to get back up to speed but I think it is more than that. I suspect it is probably a mixture of some of the points you have highlighted.

I hate to think this way, I likewise would love to be proved wrong and for him to hit his straps again, but I do wonder if we are still in that "Cashing in" period, with a fee and a the largest wage at the club amongst the playing squad we could look to bring in 2 or 3 good solid forwards which I think is exactly what we need going into next season, problem is I actually don`t think those good solid props are as easy to pick up as they used to be and to bring a player in from overseas is always a risk.
