I thought the RFL had already received £16 million in loans from the government earlier this year, and some clubs have already received payment from the funding. If the government are making further financial aid, then I hope it’s in the form of a grant, there’s just not enough money in our sport to repay further loans.

I agree. Gifts welcome, loans I think may hurt us, depending on terms I guess.

A breakdown of funding distribution (preliminary figures):
Note: The final amount received by each sport/organisation may differ from the amounts set out when final decisions are made by an independent decision-making board, and supported by Sport England.
Rugby Union: £135m - Rugby Football Union: £44m; Premiership clubs: £59m; Championship clubs: £9m; Clubs below Championship: £23m
Horseracing: £40m - To racecourses
Football: £28m - National League (steps 1-2): £11m; National League (steps 3-6): £14m; Women's Football (Women's Super League and FA Women's Championship): £3m
Rugby League: £12m
Motorsport: £6m - Owners/operators of major circuits (Silverstone, Goodwood, The British Automobile Racing Club, MotorSport Vision)
Tennis: £5m - Lawn Tennis Association
Netball: £4m - England Netball: £2m; Super League Netball: £2 million
Basketball: £4m - Basketball England: £1m; British Basketball League clubs (including Women's British Basketball League clubs): £3m
Ice Hockey: £4m - Elite League
Badminton: £2m - Badminton England
Greyhound racing: £1m - Greyhound Board of Great Britain

RL, halfway down the pecking order, but as you say, let’s see the small print

Sounds like it's an extension to the previous loan scheme. Taken from the governement site....

The funding, which will be largely composed of loans, is the most generous of any Government for its domestic sport sector in the world, and will focus on sports severely impacted over the winter.

Rugby Football League: £12 million. This will be delivered as a top-up to the existing Government loan scheme announced in May 2020, to reflect updated circumstances.

This paragraph makes me think that, for some sports it could be a grant, it also states, the £12 million is a “top up to the existing £16 million Loan announced in May. So I’m thinking that’s another £12 million to pay back. I wonder if the RFL have asked for extra funding, or the government saying “no spectators before next summer.”

But they said this yesterday - about a hopeful return for spectators......

There is an element of wealth in this. RL is a wealthier sport than women’s football so it gets less. I’ve no issue tbh.

What I’m not so happy about is the amount RU is getting. Also what is the difference between RU and the RU premiership? Does that mean BARLA is getting millions?

I found it bizarre because I am sure most of the top women's teams are owned by the same entity as the men's, I know that is the case for the women's SL football league, they are backed by billionaire owners and I cannot imagine that it costs them much in the grand scheme of them financing there clubs, how much is women's football missing out on in terms of income I wonder.
