Didn't get long but didn't look in any way out of place.

We have IMO two of the better young props in SL coming through. I think Aydin is a great player but Shaw looks that bit bigger and stronger and may well prove to be an even better find. Happy days.

Can't say I noticed Shaw much with him not being on long, but Aydin just gets better every week me. Already looks to have an aggressive streak about him. Give him a couple of years and I reckon he could be our stand out prop forward.

I think that's a good thing, in this case, he came on, did the basics right and made no mistakes, often the best kind of debut's imo.

That’s the point I was making in the other thread… he came on and knew his role… and played it well… be interesting to see what the X factor of Sam Eseh does when he’s called on.

Tbh that was a CC fascination only. I’m not saying he isn’t any good but he’s yet to do anything at any level that warranted the faith CC had in him.

He has potential but nothing more than the rest other than his obvious physical size but as we know that’s not always enough.

I don’t know Chris Chester so I can’t comment on his fascinations… but Eseh came through Mark Applegarth’s tutoring and was signed in January last year at just 17 AND was selected for representative teams in July 21… he’s also getting the same good quality coaching as the other kids

At 17/18 I didn’t know my backside from my elbow, so I pay respect to any kid who gains rep honours… I have seen him play live once (for Trinity u16 in 2019) and on video several times… and he damages the defensive line… has an offload and seems to be increasing his game awareness and workrate as he gains experience…

As an 18 year old playing reserve grade this year it will be interesting to see how he responds.

Sometimes you have to go on gut instinct. Over Christmas I piled through as much academy as I could find.

I concentrated on those who have stepped up. I honestly can’t put my finger on it but if all of them Eseh was the one who concerned me most.

Not to say I have a downer on him or that he isn’t everything those in charge think he is, I’m not that clever to argue. As I say it’s just a feeling and probably a wrong one.

I get your viewpoint… at times he looks naive… and it’s then I remind myself he was 17 in those games…

Don’t think he has a physical advantage over Shaw. Isaac is a big lad but rangy compared to Eseh. Before people accuse me of racism this is just an observation. For genetic reasons I have no understanding of a lot NOT all black lads seem to take on muscle sooner than there white counterparts but I don’t think that advantage will last another season to be honest.

I think I’m right in saying Eseh was late to RL whilst Shaw started young? In which case I think that might explain some of the hesitation I see in his play, in which case that can be rectified.

I see the same in Murphy though I don’t know if he was a late starter? However his natural ability and the position he plays tend to make it less noticeable. He has speed and balance and where he is that overcomes all. He as you say has an X factor.

Watching youngsters come through is one of the games genuine pleasures but backing the right ones is very difficult and heartbreaking for some.

we all know Wakefield in the past have produced some great Academy teams and the natural assumption is that it's only a matter of time before they become the first team, but we all know as well that that simply isn't how it works!
Most of them don't make it - fact!
But I reckon the percentage rate of those that will make it, coming through in the last two or three years is probably higher than it has been for a long time.
The team Billy Conway played in was, if I remember, slamming all around, but I think only Billy made it long term (testing my memory here!)
