Other than the council, Yorkcourt and 88m Group, who should hang their heads in shame, the only people who should not be congratulated are the people of Wakefield, I do not include the loyal 2,500 who turn up for home games come snow, rain or shine, the fans that follow the team away are fantastic. The corporate support is brilliant, every match they turn up and spend. The people of Wakefield bask in the reflected glory of the 60`s, they benefit from Wakefields Rugby heritage, but ask them to support the team, to contribute, to attend a match, then no they are not interested, why because the people of Wakefield would rather be shopping, or getting something for nothing, only interested in attending if its free, or they can sit in a pub and watch it for free. The excuses they give are pathetic, the reality is that this City of ours in inhabited by a large quantity of scroungers who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing, they are interested in what they are entitled to and not interested in what they can contribute. The last three years have been brilliant on the pitch, supporting this team has been great, we have seen some brilliant players, great Rugby and lads giving it 100 %, we could not ask for more. For our club to be in the Top 8 is a fantastic achievement, the owners deserve better support from the people of Wakefield.
I couldn't disagree more. I'm pretty sure no one is basking in any 60s glory........and what possible benefit is the 60s rugby league glory to people not interested in rugby?
It's up to us to encourage them to come and watch, not call them scroungers because they don't like what you like. Are you a scrounger for not visiting the Hepworth every week?
That kind of attitude is what get's people in Wakefield watching the Bulls or Rhinos.................or Cas. You can't just demand attendance because they have a WF postcode.
I don't go every week, but do go regularly. Noticed a few FC fans in there before the game on Sunday, good to see people enjoying their day out in Wakefield - at least until kick-off
They've currently displaying some amazing surrealist works which are well worth a visit, but I am always drawn to Henry Moores sketches he did during the war of the 'Bevan Boys'.

I feel entirely vindicated; and it's good to see that Hull's status as city of culture has broadened their horizons to seek out similar cultural highlights in other places on their RL travels.
With regard Belly's hyperbole about the people of Wakefield - the majority of which have no clue about the glorious 60's - it's obviously nonsense; the way to engage and attract people to the sport is to market it properly, provide a decent space for them to watch in, and provide something entertaining on the day. It's really not that complicated - but it's very difficult - particularly when one element of it is almost entirely dependent on third parties, some of whom, like the venerable yeoman of the city Sir Rodney Walker, appears to be actively working against the club.

The last part of your post is particularly apt. It appears that all that Sir Rodney has done is to muddy the waters and give WMDC the ideal excuse not to help.
Many congrats to Wakey for achieving safety. As a Hull fan (that lives near wakey) Sunday was painful watching (for the first 50 mins, after that it just became comical) but it was good to know my second team are safe.
Personally I'd like to see Chris Chester recognised for this, at least nominated on the short list for coach of the year.
He won't get coach of the year if Sts keep going at their current rate all the way to the treble, but he certainly deserves the praise. Not everyone on here is a Chester fan but I think he's the best guy for the job right now.
I like Kear and would put him as an extremely valuable person in our history after the MPG against Cas in such circumstances, but Chester has made us safe and entertaining at the same time. There have been frustrating games when we could have achieved more but since he's been here I've really enjoyed the rugby on show at Belle Vue.
3 years running in the top 8 is a massive achievement for the club. Long may it continue.
