Fifita is the heartbeat of our team no question about that.

Also agree with vasty on Hampshire, a natural ball handler and caught some awkward kicks yesterday. There were a couple in the first half that bounced but it was more of a great kick that poor positioning, one seemed to bounce back into his hands when facing his own posts.

Huddersfield will be a test, they seem to be finding some momentum. Roll on Friday

Yep know which ones you mean. The ball bouncing back into his hands was astonishing, pure instict. I like Jowitt and could live with him at FB but he wouldn't have got that very few would.

I'll probably be shot down here but there is a touch of the Billy Slater in his play this season - not there yet obviously, may never be but CC has proved yet again he knows where his players play best.

For me our game management has mostly been average at best this season, yesterday there were signs of improvement. We got silly towards end of first half which resulted in turning over cheap possession or poor last tackle plays. As Vasty says Salford are no mugs and they fought there way back in. Last 15 minutes was I think best game management from us this season, we took the two, followed up with a drop goal which deprived Salford of the ball, stopped their momentum , ran the clock down and gave us a good degree of control. Our last tackle plays were excellent in this period.
My concern is still the insistence of playing PP out wide, especially in defense . A man his size cannot be expected to tackle faster, agile backs in one on one situations. I like PP defending in the middle against the big boys running straight at him, he is our worst tackler so needs to be protected as much as possible. In attack I love to see him one off Brough or Hampshshie , like his try yesterday, a little delayed soft pass from Brough 5 yards from the line and PP is unstopable. Onwards and upwards

I kind of agree with you but don't. PP was devastating running wide yesterday whilst I thought his tackling was far better than it has been. At this exact moment he probably is better suited up the middle, however if CC can find a way of improving his tackling or covering it somehow then you can see why he might want to persist. Never going to be a Lautiti for sure but would be a hugely valuable addition to our armoury all the same as we don't really have a wide running forward.

What would a Cockney know about rugby league?

Re: Lovely morning.... : Mon Apr 01, 2019 12:14 pm
I was worried about what we'd do with Rocky and whether he'd end up a third wheel in the half back choices. Made that number one jersey his own but we'll probably have to give him a bump to sign him up again. He's way out in front of Jowitt for the FB jersey currently.

Perhaps yesterday we made things difficult for ourselves when we should have been comfortable from 30-10 up. Salford have surprised a few this year already and it was a very well earned 2 points. Clearly we are not the same team without TJ and Bill some work to do going on through the season. 4th now so back to back wins heading in to Easter would be most welcome with Wigan, Leeds and Cas coming up.

Rocky has the FB shirt and rightly so on his performances so far. Not sure he's way out in front of Jowitt because we haven't seem him at FB this season, except in the pre season games when he did all expected of him.
I admire Rocky's talents, and I'm not for a minute saying move him from FB, he's there on merit but not because Jowitt was not up to it.

What exactly happened to Ben Reynolds? Although an Half Back I though he had utility experience. Possibly a better option than Jowitt for the wing.

He’s on loan. I suppose we didn’t know Jowitt would struggle so much. Hindsight I suppose but I thought Jowitt would go OK. Feel for the lad really, never seems to be in the right place at the right time - always gets chucked into the fray against top teams in depleted sides and ends up looking a chump usually through no fault of his own. The lad needs a break.

Clearly now Reynolds was always the better option, you live and learn.

I do feel a bit for Jowitt, he sometimes comes in and I think he adds a spark. Always looking to get the ball to the outside backs and sticks a bit of distance on his passes to open things up. He can have a run of decent games and was then dropped for Grix, certainly doesn’t seem to be forgiven the mistakes as readily as others.

Professional sport is an unforgiving environment. You can have all the talent in the world and a great work ethic but to really make seems you need a lot of luck as well; some just don’t seem to have any cone their way.

Sums it up perfectly, no need to add anything else.
