This is all well and good, and I really hope Green and Tangata do a job for us but surely this is not the approach we should be taking. Providing we stay up surely we should be seeing 6 or 7 signings to avoid being in this position next year.
I'm not sure why these two cause a problem to any other signings you may want.
I'd happily keep Green for net year. He's out of contract and I assume this is part of the process for deciding whether we give him a deal. I see him as a replacement for what England used to be.
The team we have is not needing 6-7 signings in my opinion. We just need the players back that we have missed this season.
Half back is the only issue area for me. Brough was meant to plug a gap but he clearly isn't the guy to take us forward for next year (unless it turns out he has been carrying an injury an in fact will be much better next year)
From this years squad we need to replace Huby, Horo, Hirst, Reynolds and probably Pauli, Kirmond and Hampshire.
Horo has already been replaced with Tanginoa and I'd take Green as a replacement for Huby.
That leaves a second choice prop and a second choice half back to definitely replace with possibly a first and second choice back rower and a first choice fullback.
If everyone is fit I think my only troubling positions are full back and scrum half. Whether that is our current players improving or we sign someone else remains to be seen.
