One of the reasons I stopped but in addition I found Stevo and Eddie so boring I have not missed it one bit to be honest. I would say though that for all the £££ from Sky its been really negative on the game, partly down to the money involved has allowed officials running the game to collect extremely large salaries without really having to work to promote the game as such. This is clearly evidenced with the lack of information available about the game outside of sky and some local radio stations.

Sadly the game really is on a downhill spiral when it comes to promting the game.

Without the Sky money it would be a semi pro sport with players either playing in NRL or Rugby Union.

This is true.

Sky also gets blamed for taking matches away from Sundays, when in reality thats the decision of the clubs. sky on average takes 2 games a week?. They don't give a dam when the other games are played. Whether their reasoning is right or wrong its the clubs that have messed up the fixture lists.

I love SKY, without them, RL wouldn't exist, would the BBC pay that kind of cash, hell they won't even take it for free!

But it doesn't just effect the games that sky re-schedule, it effects the games planned around them doesn't it?

We had a game against Hudds this season re-scheduled from a Sunday to a Friday night game on short notice as sky had re-scheduled a game of ours from the Sunday to a Thursday night game the week after.

Yes, it does in some cases, but surely the millions SKY pay allows them that?

Not true actually.
The reason our game was changed was so sky could show Hudds v Man U.

Yet they (sky) of the rest of footy couldn't raise a few million to help Bury

Why would they?
Its hardly fair for a broadcaster to cover the costs of a single club.

The greatest damage done by SKY IMO is to pretend that nothing exists outside Superleague. 20 years of dismissing and ignoring the lower leagues has caused a real divide in the game between Championship Clubs and Supporters & Superleague as a product.

The greatest symptom of this is the Challenge Cup, once it was Rugby Leagues day out and fans from every club flocked down there year after year, often booking for next year before checking out of their hotels. Now it’s almost confined to the two participating clubs and a few diehards. I know there’s some other factors but I think this is the biggest cause of the split.

Eddie Hemmings once tried to rewrite history by announcing Sir (ffs) Kevin Sinfield as the highest ever pointscorer. This was the pervading attitude of SKY broadcasters.

Interesting points re the drop off for cc attendance

My personal thoughts as some one that always went every year with family in the 80s n 90s was that the shutting down of the old Wembley and it being moved to different grounds for a few years caused almost a generation skip in attendance/ broke my people traditional cycle of yearly attending

I’ve not being to a cc since the mid 90s now neither have any of my family
Although I’d love to go again
