I also think the RU have played a part in the Saracens saga. Squad sizes remain high because of the amount of games played
When you take in to account Saracens provide at least 6 internationals to the England squad quality replacements are required to enable the club to compete at league level. I doubt very much the England squad would have seen the same level of success had Saracens not have supplied 6 internationals.

Indeed, sadly RU now operates on a completely different level these days. Other than using the same shaped ball comparisons are meaningless imho and have been for years.

Agree fc.
Ru come on over the last 10 years with a last 5 year explosion. It's difficult to explain the increase in the following but it's probably part due to sponsorship, marketing and the International scene.
I just don't see rl ever achieving the same levels of interest . Ru developed both on and off the field and rt hasnt. The domestic game at both levels are miles apart .

I think it’s the people who play, have played the game of union and the surroundings they have come from. Public schools and then into big businesses who then invest in the game they love. They now plough money and offer coaching into schools so it’s a no brainier that they take them on board. The amount of 13 and 14 year olds playing both codes now is massive. It’s up to RL clubs to work hard in the community to keep them in RL, so far so good in my experience, but we cannot afford to take our foot off the pedal. I personally can’t watch the game but not many think the same.

I also couldn't watch the game years ago blm but it's not the kick and run game it was years ago. .Im pleased you see the game at both codes being played mote at junior level but don't you think union as an advantage when it comes to the development of pack players. The big lad at junior level is most definitely more likely to find a spot in a team at a later date.
I havnt done any research but how many junior schools still play rl
WHEN I attended junior school I'm sure that most junior schools in the wakefield district had rl teams
but I don't recall any at secondary school, it was ru.

The issues around the S/C breach in RU are quite significant, with the overspend having been blatant and over a sustained period of time.
The numbers involved are eye watering though and the very fact that they can live with the £5 million fine tells you everything you need to know about the comparative wealth in the 2 sports.
Before RU turned pro and we could poach a few players, we believed that we had the upper hand but, the chasm between the 2 codes is huge.

You should have gone to a proper school like Ings Rd :D, then you'd have played rugby league.

I was at kettlethorpe comp and definitely only played RU cos I captained them. Don’t know about junior school level.
