Missed the alleged trip. When was that? I remember Hampshire being pulled back and we didn't get a penalty. If it was then I'd of booted him too

I didn't see it either

Good. The right decision

There wasn't a decision to make, just the Sky team trying to make something out of nothing, that's why there was no case to answer.

Think shortly after the commentary said that the ref had a word with Hampshire about an alleged trip. No doubt at the behest of a wire complaint. Afterall the ref gave out the odd set restart at wire players protest. Thought the ref was a bit weak on the odd ocassion myself. There was one restart when Hughes appealed to ref and he was handed a restart for giving the ref a dirty look. It’s not the first time a ref has caved to peer pressure of players to give a restart.

I honestly detest the 6 again and think it’s too inconsistently applied. It’s spoiling the game for me and too controversial.

What is the difference between a set restart and a penalty?

Suppose it allows a continuous assault on the defensive line allowing a team to get or stay on the front foot. In the case of a penalty there was most often an opportunity for the defensive line to get set. When your defending your line a set restart can be more costly than a penalty used to be imo.

Would be interesting to see the amount of trys scored from set restarts within an oppositions 20/30 zone from a stats perspective. Maybe I don’t like it because I feel we are on the wrong end of the set restarts and penalty count most weeks. Maybe it’s our indicipline more than the consistency that’s applied but I’m not convinced on the 6 again.

I just don’t like contentious turnovers like with the Crowther incidents yesterday. Charnley throwing the ball 10 yards behind him and not playing the ball and the ref gives a ball steal. Crowther went mental at the ref and who can blame him. Think we had it stripped the set before Shown on sky replay and ref gave a knock on too. It gets annoying when these things seem to become regular mistakes from officials. It’s not as though we are playing well enough to overcome these bloopers either.

Maybe 2 referees would help.

It looked like an attempted trip to me. Had he have actually stopped him I think he might have been looking at a ban.

Yes the jack Hughes one was ridiculous he fell back to the floor under pressure from Matty Ashurst and appealed to the ref and then when he got the set restart he just got up and laughed in the face of Ashurst because he knew he'd just conned the ref and got away with it the in the case of players doing that there the ones who should be penalised not the defender

Our problems aren't usually the decisions that refs give, rather the decisions they don't make.

Re: Hampshire no ban for trip : Tue Sep 01, 2020 3:37 pm
Didn’t think there was much in it to be honest...if he’d have brought Currie down maybe so, but just think the quick stop and change in direction was more a factor.

On the set restarts, agree with many that they don’t seem to be being applied fairly at the minute...it seems to have worked well in the NRL but it’s still open to question...the one on Hughes was an absolute joke, on the 4th/5th tackle on our line and ultimately led to another set they scored from.

Our first one was given inside our own 20 on the first tackle, so how is that beneficial? Under the old ruling we’d have got a penalty and been able to kick to touch and possibly start a new set in the opposition half...under these rules its beneficial to slow the play on the first tackle...

Against Catalans the other week it took 68 minutes for us to get a set restart!
