Are 3 fullbacks enough? None are full internationals!

Why do clubs over here continuously feel the need to splash money on overseas players. The game is in total disarray on its back side. We need someone to get a grip on the development side and start producing some quality British players. All coaches do is expect players to come through themselves and fit into systems that take the flair out of them.
We need to get a Great Britain team to compete and beat Australia and create some interest, we’re miles off Tonga. I honestly fear that the game is dying and is close to being beyond repair. We don’t need any foreign players we need to work hard at our own, it’s all about survival for most and that is their only ambition

You're right but you're missing a wider point.

Fans are even worse, just look at these forums and how many people seem to think an Aussie is an instant answer.

As for our latest NRL recruit, you won't agree on this bit but I get Lino, for some reason, even the most average of Aussie HB's seem totally superior to our own. As an example, though he's far from alone, for whatever reason Hampshire has not cracked the HB roll IMO and he's had plenty of chances now. I concede he played well in the last five games last season so he's in contention but he's still not cemented the roll imo. He's a damn good player and very versatile and I'll happily pay his wages but we needed options, he's easily one of the best potential Brit HB's but as I say the Aussies all seem that bit better to me, certainly more confident

As for our other Aussies/Kiwis, I rate them all apart from Fifita, I'm fed up with Fifita.

Whether you could replace/create with similar British players then I'd have to say, probably yes if you worked at it but with P&R nobody can risk that so you get a quick fix mentality.

The only exception is Tanginoa, there are not many British players like him.

Twice today I've said this but excuse my ignorance again but do French players count, I've never been sure? Especially post Brexit.

I can't work this bit out from the RLF site,

I'm pretty sure gigot didn't count on quota as per the reasons you posted :thumb:

[edit]
Also post Brexit makes no difference to EU national living/working in the U.K. Providing they were living/working in the uk by 31/12/20 they don't need a visa to work or long stay, part of the Brexit agreement :thumb:

Gigot with his EU passport, Is non federation trained

There is overseas (Aussie /kiwi) there is also non federation trained which covers a lot

Barber has played for the indigenous all stars
Based on that
I assume he would be classed as an overseas (Aussie) and non federation trained

You can have three overseas players last time I checked the rules and 4 non def trained, or 7 non fed trained

To simply ‘from memory’
You could have three Aussies and four tongans (as an example)

That's good to know.

On a different note; can you play rugby league too?

The thing I liked about Barba was...he was always rubbish against Wakey, despite his obvious talent and class.

Of course, that kind of benefit is cancelled out by "no-names" at other clubs always having stormers against us!

Loved it when billy just glided past him at belle vue....

Re: ben barba : Wed Jan 06, 2021 1:25 pm
The Basics

Each club is entitled to five Overseas Players.
An additional rule for Super League clubs is that they can have no more than seven Non-Federation trained players.
What does Overseas and Non-Federation trained mean?

An Overseas Player is someone who does not hold a European passport or is not a national from a Kolpak Nation (Fiji, Tonga, Samoa & Papua New Guinea). More often than not, they will be from Australia or New Zealand.
A Non-Federation trained player is a player who was not trained by an RLEF (Rugby League European Federation) member club for three years before the age of 21.
Why can you have five overseas and seven non-federation trained?

This is where there’s a bit of a catch. Every ‘Overseas Player’ also counts as a ‘Non-Federation Trained Player’, other than in very rare cases. If an Australian or New Zealander comes to Super League, the likelihood is they weren’t trained over here either. So they count on both lists.
As a result, there are an additional two Non-Fed spots to allow clubs the opportunity to sign more players from overseas, but with some restrictions on who they can actually sign.
As an example, Gareth Widdop, despite being English, is classed as a Non-Federation Trained Player, as he was brought up through the junior systems in Australia. He will not take one of Warrington’s ‘Overseas Player’ spots, but will be one of their seven ‘Non-Federation Trained Players’.
Another is Luther Burrell. Despite being English, he wasn’t trained by a rugby league club, so, therefore, is Non-Federation trained. But we’ll cover his case more later.
