Lee Kershaw had a dream debut against Leeds and I think that didn't do him any favours - many expected him to play like that thereon, forgetting that he is a young lad and very inexperienced.
I agree he's no TJ, in fact to compare would probably be unfair anyway because his style is different.
I can see a similarity with David Jones, but I think LK is a bit more athletic near the line.
This season will show if he has developed further, he's worth persevering with I feel.

Definitely. If I were to compare his style I'd look at Jermain McGilveray, nowhere near as good as he was at that age but as you say well worth persevering with. Very physical and strong especially running the ball out, a very different winger to the classical Johnstone but quite handy all the same. Bet the opposition winger and centre know they have had a game after playing him, he's a handful in that sense.

So the question must be, why doesn't CC seem to have much faith in him?? Let's rewind 12 months, first game at HKR, no BJB, Kay, Senior not at the club, yet he didn't play him, it was Ryan Atkins on one wing??!! Not sure what is going on with BJB, but even without him, it seems Kershaw is only about 4th choice.......

Did you attend the pre season games?? If so you would know why.

Chester said in pre season Kershaw would get his chance. Did you see Kershaws performance in the two pre season friendlies following that (one was against Leeds at BV). Unfortunately he had shockers leading to points being shipped against trinity in what should have been simple turnovers and played himself out of the wing spot. He couldn’t catch a cold or a ball that day from memory.

Kershaw is full of enthusiasm and raw strength but imo his ball retention and fielding/positioning on kicks is suspect at best. Maybe he can improve this side of his game in time but as it stands there are better options ahead of him.

Thanks for your valuable insight and knowledge.......I was kind of being slightly sarcastic. :? he does have lots of enthusiasm and guts, but so far that's all he has shown really, like you say he may improve as time goes on, and yes he is down the pecking order......but then also you have the chicken and egg situation, when does a 'promising' youngster have to then show that he has developed in order to be kept on at the club, and how can he be judged fairly unless he is given a proper run of games to actually warrant being retained?! That's where Chester's coaching/man management comes under scrutiny does it not?

No not really. As stated Kershaws pre season was poor and Atkins has played plenty on the wing, obvious choice.

Actually it was more basic than that. If I recall Kershaw got injured on his first game back after replacing TJ. It’s nothing to do with faith it’s to with bringing senior in on loan to replace the now injured/unwell TJ, BJB, Kaye and Kershaw. Senior did well, TJ returned as did BJB and I don’t even know if Kershaw got fit again.

I think you’re being a bit over dramatic on this one tbh, nothing to do with faith, everything to do with circumstances. Last year Kershaw was always fourth choice and when his chance came he was unlucky.

What the heck all this has to do with CC management is beyond me, he can’t pick a player who isn’t available and he isn’t going to drop a loan player who is one of the few players actually performing.

Don’t think it was Kershaws smartest move to moan about his pay cut to the YEP and his apparently having to do part time delivery work. Luckily we are not a vindictive club as far as I can tell.

Jack Croft for me. I thought his form dipped after his first couple of games but really came back well towards the end of last season. He’s not going to displace Reece or Bill just yet, but I hope he’s given some game time or even a loan spell in the Championship. Looks like he’s got the making of a decent player.

As for Kershaw, reminds me a lot of David Jones from the 90s. Doesn’t have the flair of Johnstone or BJB, but would run through a brick wall.

Agree about Kershaw being like David Jones.
Could go really well when he gets the nod and the ideal player to put some pressure on the others, although, I think everyone will agree that, Johnstone is on a whole different level.
Hopefully, Kershaw can learn from him and keep on improving.

First time I saw Kershaw playing was away at Batley in a pre season game and I still cant believe how old (or is that young) he is.

Yeah I seem to remember Ben Crooks scoring 4 tries up against Ryan that night?! Not all his fault, but he was all at sea for most of that game, but that's beside the point. My thing about man management was a general point, but you are correct, he did get injured as TJ's replacement, so therefore couldn't be picked, although I seem to recall he did play towards the back end again? If you think i'm being dramatic, I could say some comments about Kershaw are slightly OTT?! I hope he has a long and successful career and good luck to the lad, but I bet in 10 years time he will have gone the way of a lot at the club of his age and potential ability, so whether that's down to coaching, circumstances etc, who can say for sure.......

I agree about Croft, apart from the odd game, thought he did very well last year. Tupou hasn't got anywhere near back to his old self yet, and while he should start with Lynne, if he doesn't show any old sparkle in the first 5 or 6 games, I think Croft should be given an extended run in the team.

One player i'm hoping does come good is Chris Green. The odd game I've thought he looked like a better version of Keegan Hirst, but mostly he looked unfit, not quite there, when he actually played which wasn't often enough. I know a lot of Hull fans rate him, so i'm hoping he does actually show something, and doesn't just become another Ian Kirke.........
