Re: Should we pick our matches : Sun Apr 04, 2021 2:51 pm
Webster had the knowledge of the playoffs to decide relegation, we no longer have this luxury so Chester must look to win every game. With Wakefield teams of the past you could expect they would try not always with success but sometimes we won against the top clubs. How many on here actually believe we will beat St Helens in two weeks, does anyone believe we will show the team spirit of the past or will we just crumble resulting in the likes of Fifita and Westerman trying to do too much.

If we have a game coming up against Leigh, KR, Salford etc, we should be targeting these as more likely to win.
There would be no point in busting a gut to try and beat a team like Saints, to the detriment of taking points off lower ranked clubs.

Having said that, we're only 2 games in and planning to avoid relegation shouldn't be in anyone's mind just yet but, if things get a bit sticky, later in the season, then, for sure, we should be targeting certain games.

I dont know what targets Chester & Co have set for the season but, they will all be achievable at the moment and we should play accordingly.

The only target that we could have blown, so far, is the "win every game"

We need to target every game as a win. If not we shouldn't even bother as a club or as fans buy season tickets. We are in a relegation battle and need to accept it. We've been poor for two seasons and it's the same core group of players. Bill Shankly had the message to the Liverpool team every year, first target avoid relegation.

If Lino isn’t fit, why play him. Ditto Hampshire, etc. We just look a busted flush with the imagination of a caravan site. Still clueless near the line, still giving opposition wingers a free run in. Still fading in second halves. Still apparently having a half time team talk that doesn’t seem to have any effect.

Agree snowie.H K R and Liegh do look stronger ,and I would say Salford.Do not think there defence hits as hard as the big teams.Though they look well drilled

Said before after the first 2 games it's looking like we will be involved in a mini league with HKR Leigh Salford.
We all know Wakey history you can not depent on the 12 points max available, we must target every game and hopefully pick a couple of wins against the favoured clubs.
From the above Leigh look full of enthusiasm and tough up front, but lack skill
HKR more than capable of improvement
Salford probably the weakes6 of the bunch at present.
Alot will depent on just what the coaches can get out of their teams

If that's the case and I cant disagree, then, we best get a drill for the bottom shelf of the trophy cabinet as the wooden spoon will be coming our way.
I would say that all 3 of those sides look similar and at times, worse than us.
Salford of last season were great but, I havent seen anything from them yet, to suggest they will be anything like that side.
Leigh had a good dig in round 1 but, were some way off the mark in round 2 and KR, although they look a bit stronger in the pack, still dont look any better than us.
Leigh will try and spend their way to survival.

The point about targeting certain games only comes into play if you have options in certain positions.

There are some games where you would risk a player who is 85/90% fit and some that you absolutely shouldn't.

Also, there is a hell of a long way to go (we're only 2 games in) so, right now, we should be trying to win every game, no question..

Our gave v Leigh, at their place, before our last game at home v Hull, looks huge.

It's just all rather depressing, isn't it? Only two games in but the wind has already been taken out of my sails.

We let the club keep last years season ticket money, renewed for this year, bought into TrinityTV and the weekly draw, all so that the players could continue to be paid.

We just need a win, any win against anybody by any score line.

We should always target every game as a winnable game, no matter who the opposition. It would be just like Wakefield to run Saints close and then lose by golden point.

You can only pick your matches if you can trust your team to win them. Trinity have an awful history of not winning games they are supposed to win.

So true. I’ll never forget going to Galpharm to face Hudds who were rock bottom with a rediculous loss streak.

We rocked up and got absolutely battered.
