No need for the aggression I did say I might have the name wrong hence the ??? Perhaps if you read what people post you might come across as less bitter.

I’ve clearly got the wrong name to the wrong player but as there is no info on the website or match commentary it’s not easy for the casual observer. My apologies for not having your knowledge.

The point however stands, there is a player in the U19’s who’s caught my eye and I was purely speculating that perhaps the new coaching team has decided to concentrate on.

There is no conspiracy if that helps

Not sure where the aggression is, but hey ho each to his own.
I was referring to connors experience at Newcastle and his experience in the academy, unless I've misunderstood your reply.
Not sure where you get the conspiracy bit from, but again each to their own.
I did state a few week so ago that's I thought we would be going with a very small squad next year of around 26, topped up by a couple of academy lads not yet signed to the first team and a couple of the reserves. We will really be living on the limits next season.

I understand those in the know believe that those coming through now, are better/have more potential than some of the current ones.

We can't keep them all.

Right I think I know what’s happening here.

For some reason you’ve only quoted half my reply. Clearly I don’t read my own quotes so I fairly assumed you were talking about the player I’m guessing is called Charlie Abrahams.

Conner is a different story. TBF I have kept an eye though only seen one video of him at Newcastle the rest are reports, none of which he’s heavily featured in. I was hoping to see him playing in the halves or at loose which were you positions he was touted as when younger. Just my observation that he’s not exactly burnt a trail so far but there is time. Without wanting to sound sycophantic he was less noticeable at Newcastle than your lad was at Doncaster. Sadly I can see why in this case the club have not kept him tbh. Others may see it differently.

So is Abrahams the lad I’m on about ie the young SO?

That’s unfortunately how it works. Every now and then you get a crop of talent and it squeezes out other player from previous years still waiting to make a mark.

It’s a rock and a hard place and a decision I wouldn’t like to make. However if you have a budget for say six development places and only say 2 have kicked on do you stick with the 4 or do you cut your loses and go with the 4 up and comers who you feel have more potential, sadly in this case I do think it that simple.

It’s like we all like Gwaze yet few can argue that so far his replacement Aydin looks a far better prospect? Harsh on Titus but we could carry two rookie props where as now Aydin is genuine first team and that allows Isaac a go.

Am I wrong?

No you are not wrong if you look at all the Academies I would suggest only a small percentage make it to first team SL. Partly due to development both physical and skills of young players. Some look good early some develop later. The point is to give them all the opportunity but to pull a first team shirt on one has to be very very good at that time.

Just to edit look at the Leeds or Wigan set up they take on loads of youngsters but the reality is a small minority make it. They have the luxury of being a name that draws players in so the chances of unearthing a class player are enhanced.

Yeah, he's definitely capable, his dad is a decent coach too and has been involved with the scholarship and academy for a few years, Wakefield hawks and previously Stanley Rangers :thumb:

For me, that's the key and it's why the reserve comp is such a loss.

There is no doubt it's flawed but the truth is that in a P&R comp the time simply isn't available, you have to make a near-instant impact as say Johnston di or Aydin is doing.

It's definitely unfair but then life is. For example, it's much easier as a winger than a S/O. Young Murphy is fast and agile, so long as he gets the ball in space and the opposition is not too strong he will score and he will stand out. Say young Butterworth gets a shot, well his showing will depend hugely on how the rest of the team responds to him as a creator not a finisher. It's a huge ask for a 19-year-old to run a team of seasoned players yet in effect that's what he has to at least attempt to do.

You have to be exceptional, especially at a club like ours to stand out and in some positions, it's almost impossible such are the pressures to get wins, these are wins to survive not wins for glory.

P&R are to the sole reasons SL don't produce creative players but they are a massive factor in why we don't develop them instead of going for off the shelf Aussies.
