What it showed me was McNamaras limitations as a coach, he’s got one game plan and Saints had the answer and he had no reply.

Physical is good, thuggish isn’t, that was borderline.

Saints will be beaten but they and certainly not Catalan are the benchmark.

What it shows is that this season more than most we need to beat the teams around us because we can’t depend on being the team that gets Saints or Catalan with the sucker punch.

Although we all know it a tough season ahead.

Saints weren't exactly squeaky clean.
They gave Dudson a torrid night and that plan worked a treat.

Saints by name but not by nature

As for Catalan, they didn't like it up 'em

I just hope we can take our best 17 over there and not have to play without some of our pack.

Looking at last nights game our front row will get monstered by both those teams and any other team with a big rough set.

You’ve said it yourself, worked a treat, that was the difference between physical and plain rough housing.

That said had we used the tactics of either Saints or Catalan we would have played most of the game with 12 men, amazing how lenient refs can be with certain teams.

It`s quite obviously a game plan from the coaching staff to have that level of aggression, they just get it completely wrong and the thankfully the referees won`t stand for it on most occasions (hopefully that continues). I really think they have a good enough team to not have to play like that, so its really baffling to me tbh.

It isn’t all about how we play though as you well know, we’ll have to match other teams down the middle in defence that’s where I think we’ll get caught out.Do you think we have the talent and guile to move teams around? I’m not as confident as you.

I agree controlling the opposition ruck speed may be an issue against those teams regardless of how Trinity play in possession…..

Saints seemed to draw them into the real aggressive stuff.
Right from the first drive from Dudson, where he got a little bit of attention, the tone was set.

Having said that, Saints then started to play "properly" but, Catalan just couldn't clear the red mist.

No doubt whatsoever that it was the game plan for Saints and Catalan had no plan B.

Mind you, they have some huge forwards that will dominate many of the sides that they face and we will need a clever plan to try and beat them. It certainly wont be down the middle of the park.
