Have to disagree sorry. Lyne was awful in defence and the right edge had been shipping points all season with Lyne out there. Croft temporarily got put at right centre and was all at sea but the right edge these past few games has been much improved.

Lyne is built like a tanker these days and he moves like one too, he doesn’t slide out fast enough. It really worries me that Lyne has lost yet another yard or two of pace. This year Lyne has been disappointing and I thought Lyne was very good last year so it’s a shame. He has a lot to prove imo next season.

No mate we normally agree but it wasn’t. The big scores didn’t arrive until he got injured look it up. The only really bad result was against Leeds when he didn’t play.

Lynes defence has never been shocking as illustrated by Croft, Minns and Gaskell.

Gaskell has made a fist of Centre but he’s still a poor player, especially when compared to Lyn, his defence is just poor.

Lyne has been bang average, though in a very poor under performing side. For me, Reece at best on form is a good solid SL centre, he’s not blockbusting, but very solid defensively and does good yards with the odd touch of class. That’s just my opinion of course. He’s had to contend with clear poor leadership within the team, but also how many different wingers have played outside him this year. It’s started with Lineham, who sadly was very poor.

You only have to look at Warrington to see what can happen to top players playing within a disjointed, low confidence team. I Reckon Williams will be on more than 3 of our top earners…. Or not far off. For me Reece would be down the pecking order of players who have shown up turd this year.

The problem is that some people can’t see beyond the player in front of them.

Whatever is wrong with our defence it starts further in field. People there are not doing their jobs and thus the wide men are hung out to dry.

The better more experienced the wide men the less obvious it is. However Croft and especially Minns are not vey good and they can’t cope.

Put bluntly the ball gets played to quickly by the opposition and moves to fast to the flanks without adequate challenge. Sometimes we get away with it and sometimes it’s catastrophic as at Salford.

To me this is down to the coaching staff. They either can’t spot the culprits or won’t act or to be fair on them simply don’t have the alternatives.

Anyone thinking Gaskell is the answer then I suggest you wait until Wigan have finished with him.

His defence is generally excellent and we're better with than without.
I agree about Gaskill at centre though, he's done a pretty good job.

Read his stats, you may think differently. He’s a band aid that’s proved useful nothing more but he will come unstuck.

The Salford game where Minns and Croft were turnstiles is a classic case. Would that of happened with a fit Lyne or Tupou, not a chance. As you say the issues arise much further in. Lino has been caught out so many times this year not getting across, with Tanginoa also been poor at times defensively. Lyne is simply a different gravy at centre to Gaskell, though Gaskell to his credit has covered numerous positions.

Reece Lynne is the best Centre we currently have at the club and for me there is no doubt about it and he has been missed.

Croft and Minns most certainly although I did think Croft was improving with each game he got but probably not fast enough.

Perhaps I’m being harsh on Lyne because I rate him. I was impressed with him in 2021 and he was consistently one of our best players especially towards the back end. I don’t think he’s been as good this year but I can accept that it’s possibly down to the style in defence we play where players aren’t pushing out fast enough from the middle.

I wasn’t happy with Gaskell and his stats I’ll trust you on but he’s certainly the best option after Hall and appears to be doing his best to put in a shift so considering that he’s gone pretty well.

Lyne when fit will likely be back in and I will support him if he does play again this season.

I will say though on the subject of the right side and players not pushing out effectively that it wasn’t a problem when Batchelor was at right second row vs Cas. Batchelor was an absolute workhorse off the ball in defence often sprinting back to the line. I honestly can’t fathom how he got moved back into the middle vs Catalans.
