I think people should really think about what they are posting until we are ALL aware of ALL the facts. At this moment in time TN is a Wakefield player, and as so deserves our full backing until anything has been proven for SURE. I am not stupid enough to think that the RFL would suspend him, if in their opinion they didn't have a pretty 'cast iron case' but at this present time he is innocent until proven etc. From an ethical point of view, I am more worried about the example it sets to young kids such as my own (if indeed he is guilty of anything), my lad is 9yrs old and idolise's all the Wakey players, so this sest a bad example (again, if true), and the last thing anybody wants is their child thinking that drug use of any kind is acceptable. Also from a team point of view I think it will restrict JK's plans for the season which imho would have seen Latu spending a bit of time at LF, this may now not be an optoin
But again, lets back TN until all the facts are available.
yeah i hear what your saying about your young un , but his coach will put him right .
i would of preferred hock to recive a very short ban but to be ordered to serve the rest off his time scouring the wigan/leigh schools and talking about the pit falls of drug abuse.
as for our plans it completely throws kears game plan into chaos but if the test was taken back then in november and a 2nd test was then done the club should of known that this may be a possibility. this would also answer the pre season question of why we kept all the hookers.

One of the reports (BBC I think) did acknowledge that RL is relatively rigourous in its testing, being 3rd behind athletics and football in terms of tests carried out.
It's amazing to think that with all the money sloshing around, there are more positive tests in rugby league rather than football.
I'm in the 'test everyone' camp on this one. Even if it means more of the Sky money is diverted that way, the best image we can promote is one where cheats are caught and punished, but then rehabilitated back into the system.

Call me cynical, but I can't help but think that elite footballers just have access to more sophisticated methods of beating the tests. Obviously, it works the other way when RL players are successfully able to argue that the reason they tested positive is because of an RFL appointed numpty giving them dodgy supplements.
I agree with what you say over being rigourous on testing. The difficulty for RL in promoting any image though is down to media control of how that image is presented. If we say we are tough on catching, punishing and rehabilitating cheats, an adverse media can easily spin that as we have a bigger problem than other sports. It's a shame that certain elements of the more friendly media, and commentators within the game like Cullen don't help in the way that they present the story.

650 tests in one year may sound a lot and to some enough but there must be at least 300 SL registered players and over 300 in the other 2 leagues so you have to be unlucky to be caught or rather the RFL have to be lucky . 650 is not enough .
The news on Terry Newton doesnt suprise me, im a Bradford fan and although he is a very good player, i dont think his head is screwed on at times! I can't believe a professional can be so stupid to take an illegal substance given the tests they have to do. Best of luck for the rest of the season, great start to the year. I hope Glenn Morrison stays fit all year, he will be a massive player for you. I was gutted when he left bulls!!
He (TN) is the latest to be caught out and I'm sure the tip of a reasonable sized iceberg. For a minority sport we have had more than our fair share of unproffesional behaviour wether that be attacking people, alleged rapes, drug taking, when will these idiots learn? Perhaps when they are punished far more severely. If Newton is caught out it will with his age probably be the end of his career, but Hudson was welcomed back, hock will be, barnett is back at Sheffield, minutes after his ban was over. These people, if they cannot be banned for life should be looking at a much longer ban, if only to deter youngsters. What kind of a warning to a young player, does making a known cheat your club captain, the kind where the punishment is worht the risk. Over the years we have all heard rumours about this player and that, in the clubs they have a greater day to day knowledge of what is going on, like Cullen said on boots n all, don't let them back until thyve split on who supplied them, who turns a blind eye to it and who else is using it. Mind you, wasn't he the coach in charge at Warrington when barnett jr, got caught out????
2 years is fine by me as a penalty for this sort of alleged incident.
ridiculous to suggest a life ban from your profession, gets on my nerves sometimes this sportmen as icons, there not that are doing there job, what next?
you telling me kids dont look up and aspire to be rock stars??? you gonna ban aerosmith evertime one of tham has a line? er no
lets face it 2 years is probably about a 150k fine in loss of earnings

I'm not sure if I am misunderstanding what you are saying but I would point out a 2nd sample would not have been taken later. One sample is taken and split into 2 at the time. The "A" sample is tested and if positive then the "B" sample is taken out of secure storage and also tested - mainly to rule out contamination of either the "A" test or the "A" sample itself.
It should also be noted you can get medical exemptions for the use of otherwise banned substances ie insulin/diabetics and steroids/asthmatics
