It wasn't halfway through the season though, it was near the end of July with only a handful of games left to play, We had nothing left to play for realistically and it was obvious that Kear's contract was not being renewed, Broadbent could have overseen what was left of the season so no compensation was really needed,

Don't you think it might have looked better on Ted if he'd just said go on John your leaving any way in a couple of month, go and fill your boots in France, it's the least we can do for all you've done for us, with regards to them not wanting to pay for him there in an exclusive club called SL where I would imagine they had a wide range of candidates, and for me it was more a case of what they could do for him, more than what he could do for them, just my opinion.
