Re: New Coach : Fri Aug 26, 2011 12:11 pm
It also helps having a better talent pool to choose from. If Cummins were to go down under lets say as an assistant at Wests and they win the grand final. Would you assume that he could come back and walk into any super league team based on the fact he was assistant to the champions or would you suggest that he was just working under a quality head coach which made the difference?

It seems to me that most of the Cas fans are getting giddy just because he is Australian and not because he is necessarily a great coach (potentially).

I am going to regret saying this, however here goes Brown, Simmons, Morgan and Matterson have won nothing, yes two of them are challenging but no trophies. You don't get remembered for being second or nearly there. Maguire came, as do most of the Aussie coaches in to a team with a bottomless pit of money and a good playing roster. I may be wrong here, however when has an Aussie coach walked into a team languishing at the bottom and had sustained success, or any success. We can't afford to grow slowly because we need results for the next round of franchising but if we grow too quickly it will be difficult to sustain and we might find ourselves right back where we started. It's not a secret how Australians coach so why does it need an Aussie to do it.

Fair points. The one that springs to mind is Brian Smith at Bradford but it's a rarity - also Bradford had a new Chairman who love or loath him was a cut above. I've seen nothing yet to suggest AG is another Caisley - but - nothing to suggest he isn't. I think we should write this season off for all of us, fans, players, coaches and directors - the road to success starts when the hooter blows at the end of the Bradford game.

TBH I'd prefer Gentle or an Aussie of similar quality as I believe they are better in every respect. I wish it were not so but after 25 years I'm yet to see a British Coach match them. Wishing or wanting it to be so doesn't make it so sadly.

That said I do feel all the names mentioned with the exception of Agar and to a lesser degree Powell who IMO have had their chance could do a job. Obviously I'm ignoring the comedy suggestions of Goulding and Schofield.

Harris, Milward, Morgan, Cummins and Harrison could all do well enough - that's in no particular order.

A lot of posters such as fat face have dismissed many of these which is fair enough - however what they have failed to do is suggest an alternative. Considering we have to have a coach then we will have to take one of these if Gentle is not available. That is unless we have a real off the radar one lined up which I must admit would be nice.

I'm guessing Castleford are holding out on their announcement as per usual. They'll naturally try to wait until after we make ours to try and steal our thunder and exposure

Once a Sandal Wild Cat always a Sandal Wild Cat.

Some talk of Bradford Northern and some of Hull and Leeds
Of Wigan and St Helens and such great teams as these
Of all the teams in Rugby league with me you will agree
The best team in the whole wide world is Wakefield Trinity!

Bring back the British Coal shirts for 2012

Come home Steve Georgallis & Nigel Wright

Re: New Coach : Fri Aug 26, 2011 3:36 pm
I totally agree with that!

CT (well more RW) love to steal our thunder, which is why I think their silence speaks volumes over the season ticket offer. They can't afford a deal like that, they have no money to underwrite that sort of a discount- which is seriously misguided when you consider what the additional attendance spends in the ground.

We can offer Gentle more of a budget, with this offer & improved facilities I believe we will achieve very similar attendances, the better of the youth production systems (the league speaks for itself)- except we have the advantage of being the "city club". This I think we be far more exploited by our much improved PR dept (which I credit AG & JE for).

I see no reason, other than 1 season- which would cripple any club, that CT are anything special & any view they are any bigger/safer than we are is very deluded.

Finally for the record, IF RW is playing the PR game: I think you've met your match in AG. I've heard you both talk and AG beats you hands down Dicky! To say he's "new" to RL his PR skills (which from what I've read about his business dealings & progress) are exceptional & have made him/WYW (& sub companies) what they are today. I hope he grows our brand as much as he has done in his private dealings.
AG not only has the "bluff" to beat RW hands down but he also has the money/business know how to do good on his pledges. Do you RW & co?

If it's Gentle we should be showing him figures of wages to spend, AG can show money in the bank, can RW & JF?
Not sure about their spending ability after they failed to "copycat" our ST offer (like they do with every other bit of PR).

Just so we are clear how many relegations from Super League? Technically for two of the last six years you are right we were not in the same league as Castleford.
