"I'm sorry, but I would hope that we would beat Cas with a 1 day turnaround."

An arrogant Wigan fan a few days before we stuffed them 18-4 at the JJB.

Re: 19 for Castleford : Sat Mar 31, 2018 9:19 am
Both Millington and McMeeken had the ball stripped in the second half, 1 should have been a Cas penalty 1 should have been 6 more for Cas (wakey got the scrum). I also thought TJ knocked on to Websters arm when you got the GLDO . No way did Webster play at that kick, that was even sent upstairs. It seems the more dubious decisions that frustrated wakefield were the VR calls not so much child. That said, if it wasn't easy for players it certainly wasn't easy conditions for officials either.

By all means even up the debate. It's going to be Trinity biased on here.

I haven't gone over the game in the same way I would've if we had lost (which tells its own story to be honest), but off the top of my head I thought the no tries were correct calls, the miller strip on mcmeeken should've been play on I thought (as a side he's excellent at that & really puts his body on the line to do it - great tactic).
Also the knock on from grix's late kick off & the penalty BJB "won" for floundering making no attempt to actually regain his feet - most teams do it & it's a real pet hate of mine & will say they same when we benefit from it. Although arona (I think) may not have been offside I thought the one at the side of him was - again though it's a penalty that could be given at virtually every tackle that close to the line so it feels unfair when one is given. I also thought Pauli Pauli could've been pinged a couple of times for leading with a raised knee, but they were borderline so not overt fussed as long as the ref talks to him about it during the game. I though his high shot was awful - anytime a bloke that size doesn't look where he's swinging his arm could end in serious injury. It's reckless & dangerous (totally different from Moors' tackle as there was little he could do to avoid that with the wakey player falling & his arms were down, rising up rather than stiff, but no argument with a penalty given.

I did think the Webster "accidental" call was very tough on wakey. I know he wasn't strictly playing the ball, but if you move, you run the risk & we got lucky with that. Also I thought bennys pass to mcmeeken had a hint of being forward so definitely went in our favour.

On the whole I thought the refs did a decent job as both sides were rarely on side or square all game & for what it's worthy didn't favour one side over the other.

Ha ha! Reading that all back I remember much more than I thought!

Probably on my own here but thought Pauli Pauli wasn't that bad, quota spot/import aside, I thought he looked reasonable. Fair enough he gave us a couple of penalties away but by my reckoning he played longer than anybody else in the front row?

Horo however appears to offer nothing so far.

Cas came to grind out a win, reckon they fancied it as a practise match for the grand final due to conditions and weather. Like us though. they'll have to find several extra gears to be anywhere near the final come the business end of the season.

Wood was the best player on the field when out there.

Having watched it again on TV last night, I stand corrected and have to agree about Pauli Pauli...he DID go ok...yes there were the 2 penalties he gave away, but he put in a good stint and gained a fair few metres too and had his offload to Lyne or BJB gone to hand then we could have won  .
Think he will go even better on the harder summer grounds though

I expected Pauli to actually make it to the line himself rather than offloading. Although his subsequent offload was poor I think BJB could have done better.

I don't think he would have got over as the Cas defenders had him pretty well wrapped up and as I said, it was just unlucky that the offload didn't go to hand.
I've been a bit unfair to the guy so far and did actually say out loud during the game when he gave one of the penalties away that he should get on the first plane home, but having watched it back again I have to admit I was wrong and he did have a good game for us and hopefully will continue to get better.
For the others that have similarly criticised him on here, I would suggest you re-watch the game again and it might just change your opinion too ??

You'll be telling us that having pins stuck in our eyes isn't really that bad and we should give it a go.

That goes for most players that get criticised on here .

We didn't get any of the 50/50's that actually mattered, but still the game was winnable right up to the last minute.
Its not been mentioned anywhere so mebbe I'm wrong but I though McMeekins try was forward from Roberts, I mean, that pass is a some you win some you lose job, so I make it a 50/50 that went against us.
On the next set from the kick off, Roberts did it again to webster but got pulled for it....course, it wasn't as important on their 40m line.
The England loose carry over the line I thought was a 50/50 too, but it was sent up as a no try on the back of what Child thought had happened, they couldn't disprove the knock on in the same way they wouldn't have been able to prove it had it gone up as a try.
Fifita's over the line ball steal, well it wasn't even a 50/50, it was a steal straight up but if you call it a 50/50, we didn't get it.
The off side penalty on our line near the end, wrong or not, I didn't think it had much bearing on the result.
Over all, we needed to produce more to overcome the conditions, the 50/50's and great defense from Cas managing their lead, it was there right to the end but we couldn't quite get the breaks.
Can't complain about anybody in the squad, they all did their bit in a mud bath, to single anyone out like Pauli or Miller is pretty harsh imo, they didn't look any worse than the rest of both teams splattering about in a muddy field.

Very similar occurrence in the Catalan V Shudds game. Mcallorum does exactly the same as Fifita and gets the penalty.

I just remember in last years Super 8 game you were hanging on to our tails and whilst we were ahead we couldn't get a commanding lead. We then switched the attack to our right with Webster and Mcmeeken running over the top of Miller several times. Think Webster finished with 4 tries. I think it was Miller that Meeks went straight through for our try this time but it was just that once. I was surprised how well Pauli went considering the stick he's taken on here, certainly doesn't lack enthusiasm. Thought Wood was outstanding.
