All one can hope is the apparent support we seem to be getting is dependent upon any objections and judicial review threats against this development from a Trinity point of view are retracted. We've fallen for that once.
Absolutely right, the trust and fans/citizens should be objecting to any planning application for Newmarket development, until they provide funding for the community Stadium. Remember the promise of artificial pitches training ground, community sports facilities etc. Recently, the speculation on this forum is the Council will provide funding as a loan which the trustees will pay the interest. The concern for me is, the loan will not be sufficient to do a complete new build or full redevelopment of. Belle Vue. If such funding was offered, then where would the rest of funding come from, a Piecemeal build would surely end in tears.
We all need to keep pressure on the Council planning process and the Newmarket site developers.
I posted this on Feb 12, and after reading today’s league Express, it seems that a piecemeal redevelopment will happen. To quote John Minards, “We’ve seen with Leeds that there is a way,and doing it bit by bit is probably the best way, because that’s probably how the funding will come in.”
I have come to trust the management of Trinity over the past four years, and I know they will do what’s best for the club and supporters. However, I’m sure many of us will remember what happened at Halifax when they moved to the Shay. They/Council ran out of funds, and for a few years the long Stand down the touch line remained partially built. I’m sure (fingers crossed) those at Trinity will not let anything like this happen.
