No, we weren't in amber for flooding this week, though the Pennine watersheds were. Still, where do the Aire and Calder confluence? Oh yeah, Castleford.

Lower regions of West Yorkshire were forecast high winds as the danger.

In any instance, if there's a flood risk, Wheldon Road is in a Cat 3 zone. End of.

Yes we were and we had flood alerts issued, a quick google search will confirm that (i can’t seem to get the full editor to work to insert a link).

As for their planning problems they will need to act on the EA’s demands or it won’t get passed, simple as that. It actually won’t be that expensive itself to rectify in the overall grand scheme of things but what it will be is time consuming from here, something they don’t have a lot of. But its far from insurmountable providing Axiom are committed to it and that the biggest question.

In the words of the developers agent, the changes required are "unaffordable".

The Cas development is dead.

Or are the developers lying?

The developer's agent says:

"In order to raise finished floor levels above the maximum flood level should defences fail, approximately 1.5 m of raising would be required. This would result in the development failing to meet accessibility criteria and lead to an increase in flood risk elsewhere.

In addition, raising of finished floor levels would require the creation of new compensatory voids to accommodate the displaced volume of flooding. If this were to be included on the site it would result in the significant de-scoping of the major upgrades provided (such as removal of the training pitch, loss of car parking and removal of the fan zone) thereby undermining the principle of the proposals to provide upgraded stadium and training facilities. Having the fans seated at a higher level would undermine the intimate atmosphere of the historic stadium, one of the features it is famous and valued for.

Raising finished floor levels would also raise construction costs which have been carefully assessed to provide the maximum benefits and to meet the Superleague stadium criteria. Any increase in construction costs would mean that the other upgrades to the facilities would need to be descoped resulting in Wheldon Road failing to meet the required stadium standards. Raising of finished floor levels is therefore deemed unviable."

If as you say…(and I’m not saying your wrong) it’s not that expensive to meet the EAs requests… surely it would of been a better option for axiom and cas to come to an agreement to split the cost of the extra required work..
Instead they seem to have gone down the route of door stepping the EA until they got the answer they wanted… which they didn’t!
This also cost Axiom potential clients for the warehouses and cas valuable time…

Just had a quick look on the cas board to get their take on the flooding/waterlogged area..
Apparently the water gets into the offices, dressing rooms, refs room, etc … which is probably why the EA dont see eye to eye with axioms plans

Given the amount of money they are already committed to on this project you’re correct that its a strange tactic to use and one that was highly unlikely to work. If i was a Cas fan that would worry me more than anything, i’d be asking just how committed to this are they? It’s going to need extra money but an uplift of financial input of around just 5-10% of the schemes overall cost would likely sort it out to everyones satisfaction. If they do that it will get done. But if they won’t (or can’t) then the whole thing is going nowhere and that includes the J32 site. Given the money already spent on this to pull it now over this would be a strange move.

Anyway thats my last word on Cas’ problems. This is a thread for our ground not theirs.

I agree. No problem anyone discussing. Just put it in another thread.

We were under an amber weather warning, and parts of Agbrigg, Thornes and Westgate had a flood warning in place...I think it was a red warning, but I may be mistaken. BV was outside the flood warning area...but some of the new homes on City Fields weren't!

On the weather forecast yesterday Wakey was listed 3rd for the most total rainfall in 24 hours behind two places in Scotland! Quite a while since we’ve been that high in a table for anything!
