It's clear Wakefield need further investment to move forward. Everybody agrees that. The current board have said that for a long time.

Who says he is spending the money that must be your assumption. We have to face his recent history of signings and retentions have not been a good advert for his abilities. If you have been involved in business you know that what the owners say may not be the reality.

He's still the CEO so he signs the contracts.
There is no doubt Mash is choosing the players. Neither Ellis or Carter is doing that.

But you didn't answer the question. Are you thinking Ellis only here because Carter is leaving or did I misunderstand you?

The timing may be a coincidence but yes I do think so or why invest mid season because if you want to try to guarantee SL you would do so at the start. The only thing that changed was the official announcement he was leaving.

To prove this the incumbents admitted they had wanted to sign Gale before the season started but did not have any money. I only know Carter by reputation but maybe him confirming his departure hastened a new investor to come in now considering the timing. Because Minards asked him to so we can keep the team in Super League.
It's no good investing at end of season when we are relegated.
