It's not just offensive, it's illegal (although the word "insulting" has been removed from Section 5 of the Public Order Act, it is still "abusive").
The RFL are right to act, because otherwise there become no limits. Although rugby league has always struggled to recruit from many of the ethic minority communities, a source of pride has always been that there was little, if any, racism shown towards black players many decades before football got a grip of the situation. To put that in context, John Barnes was getting bananas thrown at him at a time when Great Britain had a black captain in Ellery Hanley.
The morons need to take a long, hard look at themselves.

You're absolutely right Slugger the morons need a head shake. But.......How many times do we here the South stand at Headingley singing about the referee being a w*nker? Isn't that classed as being abusive? I'm pretty sure if you constantly abused a police officer with the w*nker jibe you'd be arrested. It always comes over particularly clear on TV so should Leeds expect a fine? It's been going on for ages at Leeds, they obviously haven't taken precautions to stop it.

I have made this comment for years. No effort has been made by Leeds to stop this abusive chanting.
Probably describes them all but still abusive, it makes even me cringe when I hear it broadcast.
Thought them Widnes fans near you were a bit offensive and glad we moved at half time, It's a good job really that the usual Wakey crowd weren't in attendance there or there might have been a coming together
Its a real shame for the vast majority of the Wakefield fans who were not responsible for this type of chanting.
Visited Belle Vue for years and despite what many will say, happens to be one of my favourite RL grounds. You feel like you're on top of the pitch and the atmosphere is usually pretty good.
However, the game in question was an ugly one. Never seen that kind of reaction. It was more that a a couple of dozen but not reflective on the whole crowd.
Hopefully we get to visit again very soon and all being well it will be back to the normal great atmosphere we all enjoy!!!

Yeah they were a bit naughty, they were winning so we're in good spirits.
