I'm not a fan - but it makes money for the RFL, so I wouldn't advocate scrapping it... but - it needs changing; as it stands, the stupid and falsely constructed 'derby' concept creates some turgid, one-sided spectacles, and hands a free 2 points to certain teams.

If it must continue, just make it a normal weekly round; slightly relieves the overloaded fixture calendar that players complain of, and stops the skewing of the table by matching up teams based on a loose attempt to create a derby.

I'd have the 5th round of the cup as the Magic Weekend. Four games per day and a chance for some championship clubs to participate. As a showpiece event maybe all clubs might take it a little more seriously as well.

2 years ago wasn't it set up as 1 v 2, 3 v 4, 5 v 6, 7 v 12, 8 v 9 and 10 v 11?

The 7 v 12 fixture looked a bit fixed.

The cynic in me if this was adopted says the RL would pick a weekend before fixtures were announced.
And as luck would have it, Hull would play HKR. Leeds V Cas, Wigan V St's etc on that particular weekend.

It really should be a normal round of SL games rather than an extra fixture.

I think that`s a great idea! Cup attendances this last round were very poor as well, I think a concept like this could drive a bit more interest and money back into the cup!
