Good luck to all the young ens pushing for a first team place but what about the academy side a few years ago that won the league aginst a wigan side that included super league players matty russell , josh charnley hughes powell logan tomkins saints side including tom y makinson and percival and hull who had shaul jordan turner , andhadley who wakey fans rave about and tom linem and not forgetting mark sneyed at slford who were all put to the sword but mr kear and mr agar thought not worth the effort or finance to bring these outstanding kids on

Good job he was off 10 minutes for the head test or it could’ve been in the 60s, poor though  needs to improve in his defence

With the club not falling over to re-sign Arona, I personally would have thought Jordan Crowther or Chris Annakin would be good candidates to take over at loose forward. I like Annakin, I think he gives the team a bit of a lift when he comes off the bench and I see him as a valued squad member but I would really like to see JC given a run in that position to see how he shapes up. His tackling stints would surely match Arona's (who I rate highly) and I don't think it would be detrimental to the team to try him there.

Crowther has far more potential than Anakin imo.

I like both, but I'm with you Vasty there.

Maybe our long term back 3 should be Ashurst, Batchelor and Crowther

What would a Cockney know about rugby league?

Re: Jordy Crowther : Tue May 29, 2018 9:33 am
Comes back to that old point that it is so f@cking hard for youngsters to break through in Super League. Still think at 21 he has the potential to do it and glad he's getting some game time at Dewsbury. If Arona goes he may have earned his shot at LF and a new contract.

Frustrating as a supporter as he did so well as a very young kid and outshone some senior pros in 2015 when he was still turning out for U-19s. There's no room for sentiment in professional sport but he does have the club in his heart and has invested his own time/money off season in getting to better physical condition.

If this were the NRL nobody would be the least bit worried worried that a 21 year old forward was yet to break through. Many Aussie forwards play second grade or bush football for years before breaking through.

If he’s good enough his chance will come.

Anyone remember Gledhill? Probably the best debut I’ve ever seen, where is he now? JK took a lot of stick for not playing him more often so he ran off to Salford and got lost because he wasn’t ready and Kear was sadly proved right.

I’d rather see Crowther make it slowly but surely and although CC has his own views I’m certain he pretty fair.

Obviously a rhetorical question but I believe Ben Gledhill made the switch to Rugby Union!

I interviewed Ben a few year back for a procurement position at Asda House in Leeds. Very bright kid who studied CIPS whilst he was playing.

If I remember rightly he made the switch to Union when he finished up at Salford, but I actually saw him play at Shawcross a few years back as well.

As you say looked very promising but probably made the wrong career move out of pure frustration. On the flip side of the coin there are plenty of success stories out there for young players that have decided to jump ship after been not deemed good enough for a first team spot.

Very fair points.
